Default Damn! Im kinda worried/pissed.

This weekend I was installing my system in my 02' wagon that I have had for about a month now. I bought it used with 14k miles on it (not bad for a 02'). So Im wiring it up and out of curiousity I lift up the cover for the spare tire and see that theirs no spare tire, I looked closer and I see a bottle holder and 3 decent sized holes in the floor. DAMN this $hit has been ran on the bottle! At first I was pissed but now im just kind of worried. It came with blue and black seats that had the letters "ESX" embroidered on them, when I bought the car I didnt know what ESX stood for. So what do guys think about my dilemma? Should I be worried?

Bad Karma for who ever passed that off on you. How does it run? Any problems? With only 14k on the odo, you can keep your fingers crossed that nothing too bad happend.
Where did you buy it? dealer or private?

Why are you assuming it is nitrous? maybe they had a soda dispensing machine in the back of the car =).

On a more serious note, you're probably fine, all you can hope for is that they didn't run use it too often. I will pray for your suby tonight

I bough it at a Volkswagen dealer, the salesman told me it use to be a show car (supposedly) and that the previous owner traded it in for a R32. It actually runs great, no problems. Although I did start hearing a buzzing noise when I installed my HKS up pipe. I only hear it sometimes when I really get on it.

Easy Street beat the crap out of your wagon!

I'm sure you're fine, I'd take it back to the dealer and have them pay for a 3rd party to check the engine over.

I agree. If they're a good dealer, i'd want to let them know right away. You don't want them to find these holes in 6 months when your tranny explodes and then deny you a warranty repair.

Of course, they might just void your warranty right away when they hear about it

I gotta ask what reputable dealer would sell a car without a spare tire!? Don't they check them over before they go out the door?

Could the holes be there from a bottle of one of those water spray intercooler coolers?

Take it to your automobile club, AAA AMA CAA... Have them look it over and contact the Dealership. There is no way they should be selling a car without a spare and something moded as such without telling you. If you end up having a bad report have the dealer fix it. Plus have them fix the holes and get you a full size spare.

Where are you?

The potential good news is if it really was a show car, then it might have had the bottle there just for looks. A lot of show cars have nitrous but don't ever use it. Try to check for other signs of nitrous being installed in the engine bay. Check the rubber grommets maybe, and see if there is any hint that a trigger etc was wired through the firewall.

With mods like that, you won't have a powertrain warranty anyway, so I would just worry about patching the holes well (avoid rust!) and pick up a spare tire from a junkyard. Don't let it bug you -- sounds like you were happy with the car and it runs well, so stay happy and enjoy it!

Maybe it was one of those subwoofers that looks like a nitrous bottle?

Seriously though, I think if it really screwed something up the damage would have been done, and you would know it.

Yeah but show cars usually want the bottle to be visible, this guy clearly was hiding it.

Good point. Didn't think about that. Even if he had a system back there, the bottle would most likely be mounted above the subs, not hidden at the bottom of the spare tire well.

You bought an ESX car that was returned to stock? I would go to wherever you bought it and shove it down their throat for misrepresenting what they were selling you.

OMG I am soooo sorry you got that car I went to see that same one at that VW dealership before I got mine. I test drive that car and it was kinda slow and sloppy and the tranny felt really bad. I smelled the oil in that car and there was gas in it for sure. I too found the bottle holder for the NOS and right there I told the sales guy no deal and I left right then and there, he just had a wired look on his face. This was all after they kept telling me that it was in perfect working order.

BTW did you notice the console slot missing were he had the NOS wired up?

On an inline 4, most repair shops will charge 1 hour labour for a compression test. On a WRX expect to pay for about 2 hours.

Yeah I saw the slot missing. Oh well what can I do know. It has a short shifter, maybe thats why you felt that the tranny was weird. I kind of feel that its sluggish at the beggining but I every wrx has turbo lag.
