Default 100 octane and Accessport

Has anyone tried it out using Accessports map for it? Just wondering if its worth a try...
About how much added horsepower and torque would it add as opposed to the regular 93 octane map?

Its meant for a stock car, so if your stage 2 you will loose hp.

I went through 2 whole tanks of 104 Octane on my Cobb stage 2 map. I reset the ECU before this, and tested using G-tech in gears 1-4 with little or no difference. Kept waiting for the ECU to adapt, but the car's performance was pretty flat over a two week period. This was during the summer with temps about 80-85 and moderate humidity.

No doubt one could tune for the higher octane, but the increased octane did nothing on my canned stage 2 93 octane map. Since the 104 octane was so much more expensive, I haven't used it since.

Klattery, cobb has a 100oct map out that you can download. Its only for stock cars or stg 1 though. Putting higher octane in your tank in your current state of tune would prob make any given car slower.

I lack the technical knowledge to explain it, best put in my terms...the higher the octane the more it resists explosion. Thats why you can run more boost and timing on race gas maps then pump and not det. Putting a gas that is less explosive in a car that is tuned for a gas that is more explosive should make your car less powerful.

Absolutely Agree ^^^^^

I ran Sunoco GT 100 twice this summer on Cobb Stage 2 (reset ECU both times). Both times the car went slower at the track (similiar conditions) than when running a high quality 93 oct and felt sluggish all around.

As far as the "STU-Legal" 100 oct Cobb map I have read on the Cobb forums that it works well with a TB Exhaust.

I'm glad to hear that others have also found that running higher octane on a 93 octane map is not any good.

The 100 octane map from Cobb is STU legal, meaning that it does not increase boost over stock, just timing. I have not tested it out but I'm skeptical that it will be much better than 93 octane stage 2 map which increases boost. For the price of 100 octane, it needs to be a lot better than stage 2 map.

The stoichiometry and combustion timing of these race fuels are very different than 91-93 octane you are typically using. You need to have completely different fuel/timing/boost maps to take advantage of a fuel like this and not lose torque compared to the fuel the map was designed for.

That will work just fine...but you wont gain any power doing it, just some breathing room.

so from what i've read and as far as i understand(this is all new to me) higher octane means less likely to detonate? so for those retarded days of pushing my car, i should put octane booster in? then i could do something as idiotic as raise my boost right?

notice: I WILL NOT DO RAISE MY BOOST!! but theoretically, i could. which would explain why my fuel cut-off never kicked in when i had hella high octane in when pushing 17psi(not tuned) but it did cut-off with normal 93oct.
oh yea, i learned my lesson already "do not ever raise boost without proper tuning"

The only real advantage of higher octane is if your car has been tuned for it. I picked up over 20WHP and 20WTQ on a ProTune going from 91 to 97 octane.

This is sorta on the same topic... is there any advantage to running 94 octane on a 93 map?

Would you lose power or what?

Ok, lets get this straight...the power loss we are looking at here is very very minimal, putting 94oct in when your tuned for 93 would prob be like a 2-3hp loss. Look at it this way, putting in a higher octane then what your tune was designed for will do nothing good for you. So dont do it.

using 94 oct on cobbs 93 map will not cause any power loss,
The ECU can handle the change from raising the fuel 1 octane point, which will reduce detonation some, and make the car run smoother.

using 97+ oct will be of no benificial use, because of whats already
been said above by jimbo

Also It really sucks that sunoco 94 is no longer available.
Used it for 4 months
now its gone and im back to 93

the car feels like crap again

^^^ I wish we could get 93 here. And what about those poor folks out west where 90 is tops? So don't feel too bad.

Also IMHO you need a fuel cell or at least some way of draining out the "old" gas before changing octane and maps. You dont want to load up that 100 octane map and still have a bit of 91 in there for example.....if it was my car i'd have a fuel cell, completely drain out the old stuff and make sure my injectors were firing XYZ octane when I was using XYZ map, absolutely no questions! A cocktail of octanes will increase the change of detonation if you get it wrong.

Thats why you cocktail 93 or 91 with some stronger octanes such as 104/110/112/c16. Or just keep a 5 gal jug with you with some 100oct in it and run the car until it shut off.

I'm sorry, but what to hippies have against lower-combustion gasoline that gets better gas mileage and runs cleaner than its lower-octane counterparts?
