there is absolutely no reason to do this anymore. or if you're going to do it, theres no reason to guess if it worked or not.

1 - if your IAM/DAM is down, its most likely down for a reason. artificially raising it is stupid, unless you know what you are doing.

2 - vagcom logging cables are $10. so you can verify your IAM/DAM.

3 - using a vagcom/tactrix/AP it is simple to set the IAM/DAM at 1.0 for 32bit or 16 for 16bit.

This method is old and outdated and is no longer necessary with the tools that are available.

This is probably a total noob question but this trick will work with a stock ECU that has been flashed? I'll thank everyone for not laughing at my inexperience ahead of time!!haha

Yes but there are better ways:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2235130

And if your ECU was flashed a while ago, then this "trick" is a complete waste of time. The ECU learns on its own after a few minutes usually. If you've driven for more than 20 minutes or so, it's almost certainly done, and there's no point doing it again.

It's really only use for tuners who:

a) flash between dyno pulls, and

b) haven't read about the superior technique described in that other thread, and in lots of other places online. Which basically means they haven't been paying attention for a few years, which basically means they kinda suck. Lots has been learned about tuning Subarus over the last few years, this is just one tiny example.

Doing this is not a good idea. The ecu pulled timing because it heard knock. Resetting it will add all that timing back in and potentially harm your engine.

If it's false knock the ecu will learn it out by itself. If the false knock is not going away you have a different problem such as a loose bolt, heat shield etc.

The OP is from 2003. Now a days tuners can set the initial IAM/DAM to whatever they want within the tune so they don't have to do this every time a reflash is done. In other words this info is severely outdated.

I reported this thread to the mods a few days ago, and suggested stickying one that I wrote in 2011 with the modern approach. No change, and no response from the mods.

Anybody else feel like reporting this thread? I don't care whether or not you suggest mine, it would still be good to just get this old info buried.

5mins idling without, 5mins idling with ac, and about 20-30km of driving with and without ac.

If you can't get over 10psi, learning is not the problem. It's hard to say whether the problem is in the tune or something mechanical, but data logging should help narrow it down.
