I will probably just give the car to my mom and let her deal with driving it two hours to the nearest dealer who can read. I want a consumption test but am currently WITHOUT A DEALER AT ALL. Maybe you guys could do a "fix 79's car" letter to the soa blog! Still waiting on that rep. |

For those of you that are having actual oil consumption issues, have your dealer do an oil consumption test.....repairs are being made to cars that are going thru more oil than the threshold allows. (There's one in my shop right now) |

Has SOA determined the root cause yet? Is your service dept sending back defective parts to SOA so they can examine the parts to determine a root cause? |

So being that in a few days we have more than one report and at least one verified, of engines being replaced. Sounds like more and more owners are noticing the vanishing oil.

Sad that subaru knows these engines are problems, but makes us put many more miles on the car with a defective engine. I kind of feel like the longblock and ccats should be replaced too. Those with replacement engines will possibly lose resale value as well.
Subaru has to be worried. They seriously hyped the product and now have an oily mess to clean up. Gotta get my mom over to jacksonville with my ccar next time shes at the mayo clinic. Unless someone from subaru calls. not gonna hold my breath. |

So.....
In my 2012 Impreza I burned a quart before 3k miles and at least another quart before the 8.5k mile mark. Subaru changed the oil and just told me this was "normal". It definitely doesn't seem normal and I'd rather not have to hawk the oil levels in my new vehicle or change the oil more often than is necessary (every 5-6k instead of 7.5k). Has anyone with this issue seen any improvement due to further break in or is it going to be all down hill from here on out? |

Well in my very biased opinion, you'll need to watch your dipstick. Hope for the best, and maybe you'll be fine. Realistically though, oil consumption isnt a condition that tends to BETTER with mileage/use. Good luck. Let SOA know youre not happy.
All oil consumers- we need to hound those people at soa about that allowance. Mine isnt quite there yet. I'm pissed as hell because I have to build up excess carbon in the top end while I wait and sadly- hope- that I'll reach the threshold before the warranty expires. Once I burn "enough", I have to pick a new random dealer and the closest one is at least an hour. then check in every 1000 miles. It's become pretty clear that some of us have something wrong with the shortblock portion of the engine, so you would think SOA would get ahold of us that have logged complaints about oil useage and let us know something and get going about fixing the situation. Ahhhhhhhhhh the stress of owning a "rugged,low-maintenance, brand-new car". |

Yeah, N.Y. weather and hudson valley hills; typically driving a lot around town mixed with driving on the highway for ~40 mins every now and then. The fact that I just got back from a longer trip to vermont where I was riding at around 70mph @3k rpm in fifth for 2-3 hours plus I've already driven 8.5k miles makes me think the engine is well broken in. Although some earlier posts suggest riding at 5k rpm for a while to ensure the engine is fully broken in. I had been babying it until I hit the 500 mile mark only hitting 5k when getting on the highway. I guess I'll give it a try, if it doesn't lower my oil consumption at least I'll have some fun . |

I expressed to you and the staff that I was really bummex out and that I'd driven a long way for just a regular service with a lot of extra oil. Wjen I discussed the disappointing service with the Manager and tech, they never offered to re-do anything. They emphatically went on about how they truly were sorry but all new cars are supposed to burn oil. I Basically I felt shoo-ed away. If David (or John) would like to help me, have him call me please, and I'd love to resolve the situation. But from my last visit, it seemed like driving back over there was just gonna stress everyone out. So rather than show up at all in even a remotely bad mood, I figured another dealer would be the way to go. I cant be demanding or express too much dissatisfaction with the car, for fear that I'll be banned. Thats why I just left and didnt bother to call back and complain. Which would really be more than frustrating. By SOA's policy, any dealer can refuse anyone service at any time for any reason. this is according to Grant and Desire'. So if soa puts a bunch of nasty comments about me in the books (which we know they have) I could in effect not really have a useable warranty. You guys have my #, if that mgr would like to call and talk about my car situation, I'd be very happy to hear from him. But being that I didnt buy the car there and I've pissed everyone at soa off, I didnt wanna get another call from soa saying not to go to ANOTHER dealer. |

When I asked about the cats and O2 sensors you must have been talking about something else and we got confused. The warranties are a bit confusing.
I still think anyone with verified oil consumption should get a new set of cats. |
