Default MAP VS MAF for turbo or supercharger install

Hey guys, my question is this :

Is it easier for engine management to have a MAF based car or MAP based...

Like a 99 RS is maf based, 2001 forester MAP...

Which one is easier for the installation ?

What steps are involved on both cases ?

MAF is better for boost application, well its easier to get it working right.

I know on MAP based Imprezas (legacys, foresters too probably since they use the same engine) that if you boost over 8 psi it will throw a code for "positive manifold pressure" so ive heard

theres alotta other stuff but both can be accomplished & have been

MAF or MAP. With proper EM it is all the same. I like MAP for external BOVs and easier tuning. But MAF generally has better cruise because you have more signal in the center where you cruise. But it doesn't really matter. With each you will have positives and negatives.

From the get go, whats involved in putting a supercharger kit on a map system. The supercharger works super well on the maf based car its on right now. What do i need to do ? Add a voltage clamp on the map ?

It puts out 5 to 7 psi right now.

What does the voltage clamp do exactly ??

I am running a modified JECS maf blow through for the past (almost) 2 years I think. Very happy with it. Blow through also allows you to place the MAF near the throttle body and not have to deal with the motor stalling out when you blow off intercooler hoses.

MAF measures actual airflow MUCH more accurately than MAP. MAP is easier to install a turbo system on, though.

The current MAP Subarus only get to about 1.5-2psi before they will throw a 'too much air' CEL, and I'm guessing it's slighly more/less depending on barometric pressure and general altitude changes.

You can! The best way is with EM that can clamp the map sensors voltage signal and then run the injectors directly. So in boost it would be more like a standalone and cruising it would be more like a factory car.
