Default Do I really need an EGT and oil pressure gauge?

I'm looking at buying a maddad v2 or prosport boost gauge (with a warning light(do I need that?)) along with the subiegal gauge pod. The thing is that if I buy this set up I won't upgrade to a three pod set up to gain the oil pressure and egt temp gauges, and do I really need those two anyways? I don't auto-x or track my car and am running cobb stage 2 base map. The sube gal pod and boost gauge will run around $150 and the three gauges plus the ATi pod will run upwards of $350, do I really need all that information?! I'm a college student on a budget and a pretty fixed income so keep that in mind

Keep in mind that the cars do not come stock with them, so no.

I realize that, but what I'm mainly asking is if the cost to benifit ratio is greater with one option than the other.

oil pressure would be the first to drop. By the time you get to too low of oil pressure, the damage is done. EGT is nice, it can tell you about any problems in your tune or issues with the OTS map if you are running one. But again, certainly not needed.

if you run the boost gauge on the dash in the Subie Gal pod,
you could run two other gauges in the Autometer twin bezel.
they are cheaper than most of the triple gauge pods that go in the dash clock spot.
and much stealthier too.

but you do not 'need' additional gauges if you are not planning any further mods.
you probably don't even 'need' the boost gauge.
but they are all nice to have.

for someone running stage 2, i think a boost gauge is virtually a requirement. it is easy to get boost spikes when you start removing cats.

It all depends on what kind of modifications you have done/are going to do to your car. If you are going to run higher-than-stock boost, then you need a boost gauge. If you are going to run aggressive timing, then you need an egt, wideband, or both. Oil temp is very important if you race for long distances, oil pressure is important if you race with lots of turns. You can fill up your entire cockpit with gauges, but they are only necessary/unnecessary depending on how much you will use them.

I personally have boost and wb02 gauges, but I monitor most everything else with my laptop when I am tuning/racing. I need to get an EGT gauge as well, but haven't found a gauge pod setup that I like.

It can also tell you if are low on oil (before the oil light will tell you)
It will tell you if your pump is going out or is clogged
It can definitely save your motor if you monitor it closely

base stage 2...not necessary. reflash and aftermarket exhaust isn't that far off from stock. save your money and interior from looking like a rice burner.

just start yourself up with one boost gauge first. You don't even need a pod, you can just mount it up to your steering column using something like a greddy band gauge holder that looks like this. It costs like 5 bucks

if you feel you need or want more gauges later then you can do so.....

if you are on a budget consider buying some used gauge setups. Good cheap deals for quality parts pop up everyday in the classifieds.
