Default Lightweight Flywheel Shudder on '02 WRX, OEM Style Clutch

Awhile ago I installed an Exedy lightweight flywheel and an Exedy OEM replacement clutch on my 2002 WRX. Along with the install, I replaced the trans mount for a Group N one and the pitch stopper with the Group N one. I understood that it would shudder a lot until it was broken in. Also, for some reason, I was missing the spring that goes on the clutch actuator lever.

It's been a few thousand miles and a few months since I did the installation. However, I can't ease out the clutch without having the front end of the car shake like it's going to fall apart. I have to rev the engine quite a bit, at least 2500 rpm, to get the clutch to engage smoothly and once I'm rolling it will engage very smoothly, especially when I lift my foot of the clutch pedal faster than normal.

Is this just the nature of a lightweight flywheel or is there a way to reduce or eliminate the shaking and shuddering?

Thanks.

How was the trans input collar? A lot of times they get chewed by bad throwout bearings and such causing your problem down the line.
Also, you lost clutch fork retainer spring? Get one

Try bleeding clutch to change engagement point

I'll try bleeding the system. What do you mean by input collar? The part of the input shaft that mates with the inner diameter of the throwout bearing? I can't say I paid much attention to how it looked but I can't say I noticed anything wrong with it.

Definitely going to get that spring. I don't know why I haven't ordered it yet.

I believe he's referring to the "snout" that sticks out from the transmission case which is what the throwout bearing rides on.

I've got the same exact set-up (even more bushings) and don't have shutter one... not at the start, not ever...

I'm assuming the LWFW was new? so it should have been perfectly flat, yes?

Did it shutter the FIRST time you drove it? or did it get worse quickly?

Since when is the clutch fork retainer spring necessary? I don't have one. Car doesn't feel any different

Yeah, the flywheel was brand new and I'm assuming was perfectly flat. It did shake a bit if I didn't rev the engine enough on take off or when changing gears but it get better after awhile. Now, it only happens when I'm trying to start by easing out the clutch only.

Maybe it wasn't all that flat despite being brand new.

Its always a good idea to check flywheels with a straight edge and feeler gauges first.

And yes, was referring to the snout.
Search tsk snout repair kit and you'll see what I'm talking about

Interesting... thanks a lot. I think I'm going to open it all up and check out the parallelism of the friction surface. Thanks again.
