A 3-port will operate in bleed (2-port) mode if hooked up that way, at which point it should act just like a stock BCS. Just put a filter over the unused port for safety.

Default Wiring this?

So how do you wire this in? I mean power and ground for the solenoid? And Will how do I control it with Utec?

The gm solenoid comes with a filter on it.

Thought I'd post this here in case anyone has a similiar experience...

I've been running the GM solenoid for a while. I started running it with an internally gated TD06H/20G, and now, I'm running it with an externally gated SZ55.

My problem:
With the SZ55, boost violently wavers as soon as the gate opens. I know I'm not getting compressor surge since I can clamp the wastegate closed and run boost up to 25psi solidly...

In an attempt to fix the problem, I moved to smaller vacuum lines between the compressor, solenoid, and wastegate; and I have a restrictor in line between the compressor and solenoid. It helped when I was only running 19-20psi, but the problem came back as soon as I started tuning for AI @ 24psi.

At this point, I'm actually looking at moving to a manual boost controller. Before I do that, though, I was wondering if anyone had any other potential fixes. I use a UTEC and boost gain is set to 72 (I've tried values from 50-72 moving up in increments), and my 90% and 100% boost control columns are the same value (325) from 700RPM - 7500RPM.

But that just says how to hook up vacuum lines... I'm talking about the pigtails...

The GM BCS has two wires... The stock BCS has two wires... There are pictures and wire color information in the first post. How is this hard?

After re-reading I understand. But the hard part is if you don't look at the plug on your own car first

Wait a second. I'm fighting conflicting info I think.

Freon's block diagrams for the 3-port solenoid show:
-- Energized = Wastegate references turbo inlet tube pressure
-- Rest = Wastegate references turbo outlet pressure

Based on that information, I would expect the solenoid to be energized (clicking) at idle just as I am experiencing. That is, when the ECU starts to control boost, it is allowing some 'rest' state to happen. My boost is working perfectly fine with the solenoid clicking at idle.

But TheMadScientist says this is wrong and it should be completely off at idle.

What am I missing or misreading here?

Can people who have this mod please just sound off on whether theirs is clicking at idle (regardless of it being as loud as mine)?

I have installed a "few" of these, 1 on a stock ECU, a bunch on Utec equiped cars, and some on Cobb ST equiped cars. On the utec if you have anythig but ECU in the 0% column the solenoid will click at idle. On the ST if you have anything but 0 in the WGDC maps and a boost target of vacume in the 0% tps column the solenoind will click. On the stock ECU the solenoid did not click at idle.

Hope that helps.

what size vacuum lines are you running to connect everything? Someone said that thought it was 1/8" but want to make sure I get the right size. I am installing this next week.

1/8" may work but might be a little tight. 5/32" is the typical size.

Thanks, very helpful!
It looks like the description for # PT374 has changed, but based on the pictures of each part it looks correct. It now says:

ACDELCO Part # PT374
Category: Coolant Level Sensor Connector {2-WAY FEMALE BLACK M/P 150 #12102747}

ACDELCO Part # 214474
Category: Turbocharger {#01997152}

The fatwallet thread has a new discount code good until 8/29 - "451727416688". It's only $1.55 in savings but hey, I'll take it
Saving another $2 by having it shipped to work instead of home (business address is cheaper)

$30.99 subtotal, $5.07 shipping (to business address), $1.55 discount, $34.51 ground total. Paid with my dividend card for 1% cash back, so $34.16 out the door

I sure hope not -- I selected and wired the resistor in myself, and I always check resistor values with a meter to make sure they're OK before soldering. I should have a bunch more of these resistors; I'll mail some to you if this turns out to be the issue...

no worries. if it is broke i'll just stop over to radioshack. i just dont get why i'm gettig the error. i completely unplugged it and got the same code as when it is plugged in so i guess it has to be the wiring somewhere.

jd: I'd try taking the resistor out. You shouldn't need one.

At least make sure your connections to the wires and resistor are solid.

The solenoids should work fine with polarity reversed. +/- doesn't matter as far as I know. It's just a coil of wire inside. I tested it both ways.

Nice writeup and way to condense that huge thread we had going. Let me tell you how much fun it was to search through huge PDFs of Typhoon wiring diagrams to find that pigtail part number!

I fitted one of these to my UK 02 STI over the weekend, though I soldered the connections to the pins on the solenoid and used 'bullet' terminals to connect to the OEM wiring (Cutting the original connector off). I piped it up to act as a 2 port, pending a mapping session in 4 weeks. Though it was OK for the first 2 days, its now showing a CEL ? Could it be the wiring (I've given it a pull and it seems secure), or is another cause likely ?

Ta,

Mark
