Default Suspension Modification and Chassis Wear.

I would imagine that it is like tying your shoes tight verses tying them loose. It is more comfortable to wear your shoes loose, just like it is more comfortable to have softer bushings in your car. However, if you are jogging or playing sports you want your shoes laced up tight...however, a shoe that is laced up tight never stays that way, especially if you are running your ass off. After a while you have to stop and tighten up your laces because they have gotten loose.

Frame Braces, Lock bolts, Anti Lift Kits, Stiffer Sway bars, Siffer Bushings...all these parts help reduce the amount of flex in the chasis, but how long can the stock chasis with all of these braces keep up without reinforcement?

It is not as easy to stop and "tighten up" the laces on your chasis.

Am I way off here?

having suspension bushings, strut tops, ball joints and tie rod ends replaced can bring a 15 yr old beater back to life.bushings dont cost much but labor
can be stiff.

Its a common practice to spot weld a chassis unibody to regain/improve rigidness too. It may also help to have a 3 pt bar/cage type brace installed in the cabin too. There is streetable/removable versions of these around. B pillar bars, trunk braces. etc.

Thank you, but I wasn't really looking for ways to improve the ridgidity of the chasis, but more how well the chasis will stand up to being made more ridgid by said mods in the long run.

For instance, Whiteline states that their Subframe Lock Bolts will increase chasis wear...to what extent? I am sure there are a lot of variables.

I am really pleased with the way the Lock Bolts affected the feel of the rearend of my car, but of course when I read the note about chasis wear...I got to wondering about it.

I think I am just going to pretend I didn't read it.

Oh I see, well thats a tough question since it depends on how bad you abuse it.

Personally, Im rough on cars. Can I jump that? lets find out. Subarus fly pretty straight ! haha..

So if you stiffen up one part of the car, the next part to wear quickly will be directly connected to it. Say you stiffen your springs a lot. Well, the next force related part would be bushings, bearings and control links. Its a good idea to strengthen your ride evenly.

Yeah, it could be just a disclaimer and the advertising "rules". Yeah its going to affect long term results in a slight negative fashion, but the gain you have now and for a little while may be well worth it. Just keep an eye out for the next weaking structure.
