Default a ? about my fuel door indicator on my dash on my 05 wrx

so the car is 3 months old now, and i just realized that there was a little thing on the instrument cluster that says "fuel door >" and im assuming that a light or something should come on right by it when my fuel door is open, but it doesnt when the car is off and when it is on.

is there actually an indicator by the text that should come on?

I don't think it would illuminate or anything. I think it's just to remind you what side your fuel door is on...

The light doesn't do jack-diddly-squat. Not on my wagon anyway.

I tested it once by pulling the "open gas cover" handle while I was driving down the road to see if the light would come on... Nope. Of course by the time I got to where I was going I forgot about it, and didn't notice the door was open til the next time I got gas (whoops).

Only thing I can think of is that it lights up for different vehicles (different models of Subaru's that is). They probably all share a similar instrument cluster.

Just about any newer car you get into has a fuel door sign that tells you what side the fuel door is on. Many people drive different cars often. It's not supposed to light up. It's mostly so you don't look like an idiot when you pull up to the pump and realize the fuel door is on the other side of the car. (I have done this a few times!! )

yes....i always pull to the wrong side of the pump even though i know that arrow is pointing to the fuel door.
Is it wrong to make my wife get out and pump b/c she's "closer to the pump?"

Yeah, when I first read the post I thought, what is he talking about, I want that light. Then I realized that it's just the thing to tell you what side it's on. Every car I've ever driven had one.

On the line of gas door - how do you hang the gas cap on the door besides by the little string on the door tab?

On the fuel door itself there is a "slot" that the gas cap slides into. Kinda like a cell phone clip holder, the kind you push the tab to remove the phone, only on the fuel door there is no tab. It just slides in and out.

I know I'm going to feel so stupid at the end of this. I still don't see how there is anything for the cap to slide into. No pictures?

I don't think you can. I have tried before, and it just doesn't work.

I just let it dangle by the plastic string thingy.

The plastic cord is made for that reason, there is no clip to hang the filler cap to.

"The plastic cord is made for that reason, there is no clip to hang the filler cap to."

not true, I don't think - the cord is so that you don't lose the cap. Every manufacturer has that. The other cars has a clip to hold the cap....

On my previous car there was no plastic cord. I lost the cap once

Left it on the car and drive off, not paying attention.

I can't find or post a picture of the fuel door. If anyone can post a pic, I will show you where it is supposed to be

My service rep told me that they don't have a clip for the fuel cap because they have the plastic cord. I'd love to see a pic as both my MY04 RS and MY03 WRX don't have a clip.

When I mentioned the other cars I meant other car manufacturers...

On my cars, the end of the cord is actually a ring that wraps just above the thread of the gas cap or the very bottom of the top part of the gas cap.

But do you see where you "hang" the gas cap? I think some of the older model Subaru's were a little different...but you get the point

(P.S. Thanks Mulder!!)

Yep I think this has been "revised" over time, I've seen other cars that were different.

Well, if what Mulder has shown is what you meant by "hanging" the cap, then I don't think I can do that because my cap from the factory is totally different from what mulder have there.
