Default I just changed my oil and something very strange happend!

Well i just changed my oil for the first time and used 5W-30 Valvoline synthetic blend oil. This is also the first time I used sythetic. The next day my car started hesitating. Once I shift into second gear, and the RPMs drop down to 2200, and the car all of a sudden feels like it is about to die until it reaches 3000 RPM and then the power kicks in and i take off. THis probably has nothing to do with the oil change, so then what could it be? Fuel filter, spark plugs, or my injectors?????? What is it, it feels like my car is going to die each time i shift. Or can it be my clutch? Please help. My car has 54K miles on it, and it is a MY98, thanks for your help.

Maybe a busted O2 sensor or MAF sensor? When was the last time you did a a tune up?

Did you fill the oil filter with oil before you installed it:

Look here

http://www.geocities.com/hobiegary/hesfix.htm

"It has been recognized by many that hesitation normally starts following an oil change. Why? Most authorities on this phenomenon agree that the knock sensor is reporting sounds to the ECU that come with the engine pumping up a new oil filter. When a new filter is installed, it is full of air and not oil. When the engine is started, the oil pump is pushing oil in and air out of the new filter. This creates subtle sounds that are normally not heard by the ECU. It also provides a short delay of lubrication being delivered to the rest of the engine as the air passes. This also causes the engine to be noisier than usual. "

Another thing to check is that the oil cap and dipstick are properly installed. If there's an air leak into the crankcase, the ECU does all sorts of weird things.

Default Oil change

I read somewhere that overfilling the oil, even by a little, can cause big problems for this basic engine type.......
Worth a check.

Just my thoughts........

I'd put a can of heet in it and see if that helps. If not, I'd change the fuel filter. After that, lots of possiblilites...

What is a can of heet? Should i jsut take it to some place and have them change the oil for me. OR should i just buy a new oil filter, or what should i do exactly. I am pretty sure it has to do with the oil change. Thanks for everyones help.

The problem you're describing sounds very similar to the knock sensor "freak out" I used to get when I did oil changes. It'll probably go away if you do an ECU reset.

To keep it from happening everytime I change oil, I try to fill the new filter with as much oil as possible before installing it. Then when I'm done, I start the car and let it idle for a minute or two before touching the accelerator. Seems that the knock sensor picks up extra noise if the engine's dry, or hears the sound of air being forced out of the oil filter. Not sure what the cause is exactly, but this has been a good solution for me.

"Heet" is an alcohol product to get the water and ice out of your fuel system. Costs a buck or so. I think your owner's manual even suggests it. Condensation buildup is almost inevitable, and gives symtoms similar to yours. It might just be a coincidence that the problem began right after an oil change. No CEL, I presume. Throw in a can of heet next time you gas up and see if that helps.

Seriously, why not! I don't think I know a single person around here who doesn't. I've heard rumblings about hose degradation (don't you think they formulate for that?) but never seen anything substantiated. Do you have anything?
