EJ20G turbo options...I NEED YOUR HELP ALL!
Hey Guys,
I have been sticking with the EJ20G misfire posts and now I think we found out what the problem was and I need some advice from you guys. I have an EJ20G out of a 93 JDM legacy. I am putting it in my 99' 2.5rs It should be pretty bad ass when its done. For a factory sized turbo, it was pretty decent. Seemingly MUCH better then a factory WRX turbo US spec. The turbo is bad we found out and needs to be replaced. What do you guys reccomend and what turbos will bolt right up to it being that its JDM? Obviously if I could find another 93 legacy turbo that is JDM that would work but what else would? And what else would you guys reccomend? Factory WRX one? Next step up WRX turbo that is a bolt on? What are my options...PELASE HELP |

well you could go all the way .. gpmoto is about to make garret uppipe/down pipe combos .. they point to the side so they should work
*** i re-read your post the factory turbos from a an early legacy turbo: vf-10 vf-11 and vf-12 .. all much smaller than the td05 i have never heard of a vf-8 tho and no the stock turbo is not all that hot.. i have the same engine .. mine came with a vf-10 for which rebiuld kits are ~150 in parts i don' t think and subaru comes factory with a BB turbo the best power solution get an unmodified td05 from deadbolt Last edited by Jaxx; 02-06-2004 at 03:45 PM. |

cool, yea the mechanic said it was a VF8RHB52...im most likely going to get it rebuilt I guess...I guess that would be the best way to go? Its much better then a factory WRX us turbo.
I know there is MUCH better aftermarket stuff out there, but that should do it for now, all agree? If it CANT be rebuilt and its toast? Which would be the best to go with? A vf10 someone said? |

VF8 does sound real small
I'll have a USDM Legacy turbo soon (VF11 I think) I don't think any came w/bb turbo either....maybe an STi, but not a Legacy if the flanges are the same you can use any up/downpipe that a WRX uses |

it is not decently sized.. it is noticaly smaller than the td04L factory RSs only ran 7 psi although i have never seen a vf-8 there were legacy RS-RAs that may have had a differnt turbos the best power solution get an unmodified td05 from deadbolt |

I didn't say anything about the intake....
did the TT Legacys have two small turbos? Maybe it's from one of those. and you said Quote:
I still need to get a 'new' turbo...Garret spool up quick |

Where could I get a TD05 turbo? What is it off of? Is it a DIRECT bolt up to the JDM ej20g? How much would it be?

My mechanic, and Smacksube (who is working on it as well) both said it was obviously visually bigger then the US spec WRX turbo. That make any sense to anyone?

Isnt TD05 the wrx turbo? I dont want to sound defensive guys, and I really am looking for your opinions/facts, but Scooby Slack, didnt u just say you never saw a vf8? Are you POSITIVE its smaller then a us WRX one? Because 2 people said it looked bigger that were holding it.

if they have it in there hands & can compare it then fine, I'm just saying that it doesn't make sense to me because of the car it came off of
The USDM WRX has a TD04......the TD05 came on some JDM WRX's |

OK, a subaru mechanic in Tampa just sait the FV8 is basically about the same size, maybe a tad bit smaller then the US WRX turbo. he said it was built stronger, but its a slight bit smaller. I guess I am in search of a TD05, for best case senerio now. If anyone knows where I can get 1, or has another turbo of similar size, let me know. Il pay for it now, and have it overnighted to me

This was the turbo used on Legacy turbos in the early 90's in Japan. The best information I can find would put it less powerful that a TD05, but more powerful than the VF-10's and VF11's on USDM Legacies. A higher VF number does not mean a bigger more powerful turbo. Look at the VF-22's and 23's. They are definitely more powerful than a VF-28 or VF29. I'll see what else I can get you. I am on a new computer and don't have all my tech files in order yet. I think I have the flow for it around here somewhere... |

OK, so the FV8 RB52 turbo that is blown that I have is more powerful then the US VF-10's and VF-11's but SLIGHTLY less powerful then the US wrx TD04 turbo. A TD05 which was found on JDM wrx's and some sti's would be the best direct replacement to pop on, and would be a small gain, but better then the WRX TD04. So it sounds like I can use a TD04 without a problem, but the TD05 would be better if I can get one. I will check Scoobynet for 1 Puckaveli, and TY Matt Monson, it sounds like you know your stuff.
