Default Very rich - Learning View Attached

Hey guys,

05 STI - Protuned w/ APS Inlet, APS Intake, TGV -'s, TBE, Perrin Up pipe, Turbo XS TMIC.

I recently got a wideband to troubleshoot the lack of power that i'm having. Essentially due to fueling inconsistencies / knock. The AFR at WOT in any gear will go down to 9.8 if i let it. Needless to say, i'm staying off of it, but here is my learning view, after a week of not resetting the ECU.

At the same time, I popped open RomRaider and noticed that even at idle, I had an AF Correction #1 ranging through -3.12 - 14.84. I had done a boost leak test before and didn't find anything. Any ideas as to what could be causing this guys? I've done the starter fluid test, and couldn't notice any leaks either! I did a compression test last week, and everything was healthy.

Disregard the memorized codes - those were from a week ago. When i tried unplugging the maf / o2 sensor.

Thanks!!

But since they're still listed in LV I'm guessing you haven't reset the ECU(?) I'm thinking fail safe map... is at least part of the problem.

Involve your tuner... its his tune.

Your tuner may have increased the failsafe IAM threshold value. IIRC its .4 stock.

Basically, your car has a mechanical fault and needs to be fixed.

Prior to resetting the ECU, the car runs and has the same exact issues, less the codes. I've taken multiple learning view screenshots, and they're all nearly identical (maybe .1 off lol).

What could cause these conditions? My tuner can't do anything because he lives out in another state, and can't seem to track it down through the internet. He charges for e-mails so I can't just keep throwing money at him for it. There aren't any reputable shops in this area, either, aside from the dealership.

I need your guys' help!

Haha - well he didn't charge for the first couple, but once I sent him logs and whatnot...

It's Scott Siegel.

The LV at idle indicates a leak, but trims aren't terrible anywhere else. Boost dropping below 10 indicates what is most likely a mechanical issue. It's possible Scott messed up the ROM in some way, but not likely.

It does very much have the symptoms of a post-turbo leak... it's small under vac, which only really affects idle trims dramatically. Under boost it's larger, affecting AFR.

He probably started charging because he realized you want help troubleshooting what he has determined is a mechanical issue.

Was your boost leak test after you had these symptoms? What psi did you pressurize to? and what did you use to attempt to detect the leak?

Hmm - so that could be the TGV or Intake Manifold gaskets, since I already tested out the Intercooler and TB coupler, right? Replaced the Y-pipe gaskets ahead of time. I've had it smoke tested, and pressure tested to 20 PSI.

The pressure test was also after the symptoms occurred, and I used soapy water for that test.

Yes, it could be TGV or intake manifold.

Lean at idle and rich on boost indicates a leak between the turbo and the engine. At idle it sucks in extra air and leans out the mix. On boost air gets pushed out and things get rich.

All connections between turbo to engine. Could be as simple as a boost hose, or as painful as the TGV to heads gasket.

It's so weird. ItS not always when in on boost either. I was idling after getting gas yesterday, and it was idling at 9.8 - I don't know why it would be running so rich.

Ok I cleaned the maf, put a new pcv valve in, and put a new clamp on the y pipe to turbo. Idle seems a bit better, but it still hits like 10.4 at wot. Also, it feels like there isn't any additional power between 70% throttle and 100%.

Any other ideas guys? Are there other possible causes for this besides a boost leak?

True - I unplugged the front o2, and the car ran at 10 AFR at idle as well, oddly enough.

Ok guys - I installed a new o2 sensor and it's still having the issue. The car idles almost perfectly when I unplug the maf sensor. So that means either I have a vac leak somewhere, or my maf sensor is bad?
