Post Removing fuel tank & Fuel cell foam

Anyone have directions on how to drop the fuel tank?

Any years have smaller tanks than the RS that will bolt up?

Can you buy the foam that is used in fuel cells to put in a stock tank?

Thanks,
Doug

Don't know what reason why you want to remove the tank, but I'm swapping mine for a WRX tank because it has a bigger fuel baffle internally so fuel stays near the pick up under hard cornering.
I know you have to remove the rear differental and most of the rear suspension arm out of the way to make it easier to drop the tank.

Actually thats why. I would like to find a smaller tank and posibly fill it with fuel cell foam. Smaller tank = less weight (can't put as much fuel in) to haul and less room for the fuel to slosh around in.

I am hoping someone has removed their tank before and can give me detailed instrutions.

Thanks,
Doug

Removing the fuel tank is kinda extreme. There is other stuff you can do to lighten up the car. What have you did so far?

On our previous rally car, we took the tank out for a 15gal fuel cell in the trunk. But this is general steps on removing:
-drop exhaust
-drop differental- detach front drive shaft
- detach both half shafts
-drop front differental support
-detach fuel lines on left side of tank.
-remove right service plate inside of trunk.
-unplug fuel pump connector
-detach fuel tank straps and drop tank.

It is a fair bit of work to drop if you are doing it on your own in the garage.

Good luck
