Wish we were so lucky.
I planned to take our OBW home from work for the weekend as it has a lot more ground clearance but that didn't work schedule-wise. This afternoon we decided to drive over and check on our house in South Boston. The city does a pretty poor job of plowing as it's a neighborhood street with cars parked on both sides, on a hill. We took a peek down the street before turning in and it looked OK. But there was just enough snow to start hanging up the car, and as it packed in the car high-centered. Luckily I carry an Army entrenching tool in the trunk and happened to have another shovel. Eventually I resorted to jacking up the left front tire to get the snow out from underneath. After 45 minutes or so of shoveling, we got enough snow out from under the car to be able to back up out of the street.

I think someone with a truck or Camaro or other redneck-mobile is hooning around my neighborhood.

Yeah, at least most real 4WD vehicles have locking differentials. OTOH, I saw a guy in one of those turn a corner, slide across the road, and hit a parked car, breaking the front suspension. Apparently "Monstr Mudders" are not good in snow.
Army trucks are reallt capable off road but those universal tires they used sucked in snow. We put chains on the M151's. |

My street hasn't been touched by a plow in over 36 hours. I wonder if Chelo's would mind if I walked in with ski boots on...

No plows in Milford since Fri early afternoon. I think the through-streets are clear, because I can hear the occasional vehicle on the next streets over. Hoping maybe we'll get dug out tomorrow. Can't even get off the property without snow shoes.

I never want to drive a car with coilovers in the winter ever again after going down some side streets today. I'm surprised they didn't all blow. Or maybe they did. -___-

So, I guess it's easier to list the streets you can actually drive on...

Official total in Boston was 24.9" making it the 5th worst storm on record. #1 was the Feb 18-20 2003 storm which put down 27.5" so winter ain't over yet....
In the catty news department, a friend is a Honda snow thrower fanatic. I'd expressed admiration for their snow-throwing but concerns over the complexity of their hydrostatic drive system versus the simple friction disk on an Ariens. Part way through cleanup, the drive system packed up, the nearest dealer is about 30 miles away, and doesn't open until Tuesday. I actually feel sorry for him: his entire belief system has crashed down around him.... Front bucket is 24" high, handlebars 34" high.... |

Guess it depends where you are, my parents are downtown and report all the roads, even smaller ones in their area are at least passable. I think the contractors the towns hire don't have the gear for this so the towns are stuck doing this with very limited equipment.

some towns like Charlestown were barely even touched with plows, having a ban so the towns and drivers can plow was smart - except they didnt do ****. Makes no cents!

The mayor of Providence was driving around the city until late last night checking roads and responding to requests on Twitter.

need banana, will travel
Ok, so I was about to Les-Stroud myself a pair of snow shoes and try to climb out of here and get to Stop & Shop (about 1 mile down the road), but I just heard a woman was struck by a plow walking in front of McD's (exit 34)...which is exactly the direction I was headed. Maybe the bananas will have to wait.

Lots of big puddles around Providence, because it's raining and all the drains are blocked.
But even with another storm, we really don't have anything to complain about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1972_Iran_blizzard |
