Damn none of my local suppliers can get the continental ewc. The one guy is going to try one more time tomo. I guess I'm going to get the general arctics instead if not the ewc. The prices he gave me for both mounted n balanced was $146/tire

Seriously, check the goodyear ultra grip ice. For me it was the same price as blizzak and ewc and boy, they are on par with the blizzak, better in some areas actually, less mush. Also better than the altimax for the same reasons plus better snow performance, mind you I didnt stud mine.
Finally started snowing and getting cold here, -3 this morn and snowed yesterday. I give the goodyears an A or A-. Very pleased with them. |

I would downsize to 16's and get 205 55 or whatever size is recommended by tirerack, maybe 215 55. They should have plenty of cheaper alloys that clear your brakes, you can just have them shipped mounted and balanced. Id go, in descending order, michelin Xi3, goodyear ultra grip ice, conti ewc, general altimax. Hopefully you can find rims that clear without buying rpf1's pr something. Otherwise, you might just throw 225 45's on your stocks and get aftermarket rims for summer instead

I would seek out the rim with an offset closer to the stock 53, otherwise, for my ex's '12, 215 55's were the size equivalent. The 205's will be just enough smaller to where youll notice a difference in appearance, cruising rpm, and mpg

Hey folks, i drive a STi 05, and was wondering if mounting a set of tires 225/50R/17 on my stock GD BBS would be ok.
Before I had 225/45r/17. Btw I'm still running stock suspension. Any input will be appreciated. Last edited by ChrizTi; 12-04-2013 at 12:28 PM. |

Too tall, theyll fit on the wheels, but probably not your car. Run the sizes through the tire size calculator

Ok done procrastinating! Ordering the general arctics at 8am today. I think he is charging me $155/tire mounted and balanced. I called around all my local suppliers and I got prices from $146-189/ tire.
How's $155 sound per tire mounted and balanced? Going with them because they're the only place that told me they can get them in the same day. |

I would still downsize at least to 17 myself. the price difference alone makes it a good choice. Besides, you want more sidewall ideally.

Just got a new 2013 Sport Premium 5dr Impreza, and just had my first encounter with snow/ice in salt lake city (i have a steep driveway). Lesson learned, need some snow tires!
I see that tirerack's recommended winter package includes 15 inch tires and wheels. Since my car is 17 inch stock, should I be worried about going minus two for the winter? Thanks! |

Yeah, dunno what the offset is on those, but the closer to stock the better. You can go 205 50, 215 45, or 225 45. run the sizes through the tire calc to match the stock tire od as close as you can.
After 3 sets of various blizzaks, Ill never buy them again. Not bad, but overrated and others are just as good if not better for the same price. |

Has anyone experienced w/ Semperit Speed-Grip 2? It seems to be popular in Europe & Canada, but not in U.S. I searched but only found reviews of orig. Speed Grip & pretty old info.
