Default EJ20 valve adjustment question

i have a ticking inside the engine. sounds like my valve(s) need some adjustment. are the valves adjustable like honda etc?? or are they hydraulic?

if they are hydraulic, how do i adjust them?

What weight oil is everyone running??

Thanks!!!!!

Stock they are shim over bucket, at least the older ones are. To have the lash adjusted you have to change the shims. This can be done without removing the cams if you have the tool. I can get you the part number for the tool if you like but it's listed the the FSM which you should get before you start attempting any engine disassembly and modification. It's available online too.

When I first got my wrx I started noticing the ticking and was wondering the same thing. The guy at the dealer said it was OK and that wrx's do not need an adjustment like Hondas. More than likely what you are hearing is the injectors. If you ever my pinks they are louder. Your car should be fine.

I think most of them tick... It is heavily oil dependent. Go to a heavier oil and you won't notice it. Also I think adjusting them is on the service schedule, it was either 60000 or with the timing belt at 105k.

Hm. I didnt see in the manual where it says to adjust/re-shim valves at 105k... Maybe I missed it?

Btw, mine has been ticking since the day i got it... so does my g/f's - its a boxer engine, heh.
