Well, I was thinking of you

Actually, this reward is deserving. Motor Trend , Car and Driver, etc, all have their awards. So Diesel Driver (# 1 diesel mag/site) should have their award too.

I vote for the Golf TDI. Not for it's mpg, but over all category score.

The Golf is the best car for travelers. When you get off the airplane and go to the parking lot it is always there. Think about it. When the Golf is parked it blends right in with the rest of them. White with a little dirt mixed with Golf's bland styling is perfect. If for chance the Thief thinks it is a GTI no worry, one look at the TDI badge his running. If the TDI badge falls off, no problem all car thief's no better then to steal a VW. Nothing like fleeing the scene with your headlights out and two cylinders down from the coil packs (if it starts in the first place).

honestly, that's why I like my reflex silver jetta tdi.
I can bomb the Thruway at 80+ while getting 42ish mpg and be literally invisible to all humans, including law enforcement. Or seemingly so.

I voted 335d. My reasoning? None, really, other than the fact that it's pretty badass. Note that I didn't write "for a diesel." It is really just a neat, performance oriented car regardless of what fuel propels it. I think that's what makes it really remarkable.

I will concede that when you get into the economic factors behind most people's reasons for buying a diesel, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and I can understand why a lot of people would think that my vote shows that I have the reasoning capacity of a 10 year old.

Then again, I've never claimed to be mature or reasonable.

Porsche's 911 Turbo S supercar is tested against Peugeot's diesel RCZ HDi at the Rockingham motor speedway to conduct an economy test with a difference. Just how close on fuel economy will both cars get when driven around the track at the same speed? Here, Mike Duff and Vicky Parrott find out.

BMW X5 35D where the 6cyl turbo diesel is king and fully utilizes the torque.
They are all great engines though.
I think the car with the most dedicated owners will win so VW will take the top.

Top Gear did a very similar test once where they put a Prius against an M3 at the track with the Prius attacking it full on and the M3 following. The M3 returned better MPG at 19!

For Diesel Car of the Year I voted for the 335d of course!
The car continues to amaze me. I continue to average 30+MPG with so much power! No Smell, no soot, and the car now traps 105 with a chip!

Another way to look at it is that the Jetta SportWagen and Golf TDI - which are basically the same car, differing only in body length - beat the BMW 335d.

Regardless, good to see diesel getting some more attention.
