Lol. It was a 76. A 71 is great... on a Honda.

The 35R was removed and the GTX30R was installed and then the car was dyno tested again same day. After I tuned it to 1 psi less, The Car was fully spooled about the same as any GT30R. If anything maybe 200 rpm later. The power was 366. THe car gained HUGE midrange power because of the downsizing of the turbo and made more power at redline then the 35R. About the same power at 6000 range.

The motor was stock. It was a crappy 07 STI. So we could not push anything to hard. My opinion is that this turbo will spool almost the same as the 30R but make 30 to 50 whp more up top. Just like the garrett engineer told me it would at SEMA.

The customer was happy since he was running a GT35R on 91 which is really a loosing proposition. He gained alot of usable power.

To really test, I need a built motor car on some gas.

C
Roughly when did the GTX30R hit desired boost, 3800-4200rpm?

What would be needed to net that extra 30 to 50 whp, head porting and cams a must?

Would a 1.06 housing on the GTX30R become the new 0.82 housing of the past to support the extra flow, or would that just be like running a GT35R 0.82(in terms of lag vs outright power)?

20 to 21 psi. The 35R ran 22 psi.

We got 14 psi by 3600. Gate open and wailing around 3700 to 3800.

What is needed to get more power is octane and me not worrying about that weak ass 07 STI motor from cracking its pistons.

The 106 on the 30R in my opinion is a wast on single scroll. The limiting factor is the small turbine wheel and the T3 Flange.

Remember. The dyno was at 1.0. So if you want typical Numbers you must add 20%. Most shops run 1.20 correction.

I know, i know, i have completely neglected this thread last week. Sorry, i was setting up the web pages and things for the turbo kits. We also added a new Tuner Turbo kit, which is everything minus turbo and wastegate. We get about 2 calls a week about this asking if we can sell a kit like this so we are! I also added all this to the front page so it is really stacked with info now!

A few pages back i said this 35R .82ar exhaust housing flows about 50more HP than the .63ar housing so i should be seeing about 50HP with just bolting this on. It wasn't too far off from that at higher RPMS!

Here is a comparison of the GTX3076R w/.63 vs .82 and the GTX3582R w/.63 vs .82. On the street the GTX3582R w/.82 is very laggy off boost. Its a huge difference!

Onto the fun stuff. Here is the GTX3582R w/.82 housing at different boost levels. It does make more power than the GTX3076R but not tons and tons more. I think that if i had reved the engine 8K we would see the GTX3582R start to show its worth. At 30psi, the 2.5L is needing about 70lbs-min of air and going up to 8000 adds 10lbs-min more. That is where the GTX3076 falls off and the GTX3582R would really show some gains.

The question is, "Is it worth going to the .82 over the .63 GTX3582r?" I would say for sure, if you are wanting more power and are going to rev the engine high. Here is a graph showing the .63 runs versus the .82 runs. Like all other runs, i did no tuning to increase power, just to bring the AFRs back in check. What i found was i needed more fuel at the higher RPM's which is expected with a more efficient turbo. What i notice on the road is the car is laggy, then BAM, power, and once on boost, its a very linear feel all the way to redline. There is no drop in power and it really makes me want to rev the car higher and higher, but i am not....

My personal choice after all is said and done... GTX3076R with .82ar. Check out the difference. And what you can't see on the graphs is the off boost power. Personally if i was limiting my redline to 7000 RPM, then i would loose 30WHP to get the better response and fun factor of the smaller turbo.

Here is another comparison of some turbos. I couldn't overlay the GTX3582R w/.82 without doing some free hand drawing. But check out at 4000RPM and where the TQ is on all these as well as the above graphs. Keep in mind these are not all GTX turbos, but what i am showing is the response and TQ from the GT or GTX 3076R and the GT or GTX3582R with different housings.

At 3500RPM........

-3076R w/.63 hits 340ft-lbs of TQ

-3076R w/.82 hits 280ft-lbs of TQ

-3582R w/.63 hits 240ft-lbs of TQ

-3582R w/.82 hits 220ft-lbs of TQ

AT 4000RPM......

-3076R w/.63 hits 420ft-lbs of TQ

-3076R w/.82 hits 420ft-lbs of TQ

-3582R w/.63 hits 320ft-lbs of TQ

-3582R w/.82 hits 270ft-lbs of TQ

^ that was what I was looking for Ron

It seem that the GTX35r is not as good as the HTA86 according to the logs and data that we have seen rencetly from other cars. To bad... it seems that GTX3076 is a golden boy for anything below 500whp

So the HTA86 results i have seen are done on built motors with cams head work, running 34psi or more, C16 or other race fuel. For sure they are being pushed for max power also. The HTA has a 62mm Inducer/86mm Exducer comp wheel which depending on how its measured might be only slightly bigger than the GTX wheel 62.5/82.5 which is 84.7mm with the extended tips.

My car has stock heads, stock cams, stock NOT ported TGV's, pump gas with 50/50 meth mixture, stock intake manifold and i stopped at 30psi. I was seeing 30WHP every 2.5psi or so. So there was for sure more HP to be gained.

But for sure the turbo i think most customers are drawn to are the GTX3076Rs!

seems like the FP HTA gt30 ($1700) or the Precision Billet Turbos ($1000) are cheaper solutions....

im really not sure how precision doesnt have the market cornered at their price point....

From the few Precision turbos in rotated set-ups (I see a lot of them on IWSTI from AMS) and the logs I have received, I would lean towards the Garrett turbos.

I think Garrett did a better job of the billet wheels then both FP and Precision.

The spool vs power that Perrin is getting looks better to me on the GTX.

From what I know about EVOs, the FP HTA gt30 suck balls, the precission are good specially the 6262 for the money but its still spools like a regular 35r with a little more top end power. The HTA82 spools a little faster than the 6262 and makes more top end power, but it doesn't quite spool as fast as the GTX30r which spools almost like a regular 30r, correct? And the 5857 is too small for 500whp IMO, I want to see the numbers that Mikey posted of the car in florida with the 5857 on Airboy rather than the virtual dyno because IMO the numbers seem to high.

$1700~ gets you a GTX3076R, but $1000 doesn't get you a PT BB turbo. I love Precision turbo as a company as they have done a lot for us over the last year with supplying us a few sample turbos for testing, but there is a reason for us choosing Garrett. I have dyno results of their comparable turbo (5857 turbo) and its no where near as responsive as a GT3076 and no where near the HP.

But I know they have a ton to choose from (more so that last year) and a great price point which is why we are offing the kits with no turbo and no wastegate. With Precisions new Garrett direct replacement turbos, its for sure a great affordable option and dual ceramic BB ones are also nice.

Looking back last year we were ready to make a big change in our kits for the PT turbos(v-band housings), or Tial housings or Garret v-band housings, you name it we tested it, but what it came down to was performance. The GT turbos and housings were really the best setup. PT were less powerfull and less responsive, i tested Tial housings and besides the fact they are freaking awesome looking they do perform the same. We felt there was no reason to add cost for no HP gains. What i am saying is, i agree!

I just took a 5857 off my car, it doesn't compare well with the 30 or the 35R much less the new GTX versions. It spools late and doesn't make the power it should.

I've had lots of PT turbos over the years and some of them are magic (37R, 6265, etc) but there current offerings to compete with the 30R is blah at best.

I never got around to dynoing the 6265 but i did drive around on it for a long time. It was pretty sluggish feeling compared to the 5857, and since the 5857 is sluggish compared to the 30r...... You get the idea. They did just come out with direct bolt on turbo that has the same dimensions as a GT30R and it may be a good option, but i don't plan on spending too much time dynoing or testing those.

these gtx wheels are awesome! im really debating on swapping my gt3076 out for a gtx3076 but dont think that the extra 30ish whp and few hundred rpm's less in lag will be worth the hassle and price

No difference in spool at all keep that in mind! Also keep in mind that i think the GTX will make even more power if you turn up the boost. Basically the GT3076R poops out around that 460-ish mark. The GTX can flow way more air and run more boost. I just tested them all at the same boost, but i never pushed the GTX to that 30-35psi range to really see how it does!

Jeff, do you know if they plan on releasing a GTX with a 67mm inducer to compete with the 6765 and hta 3794?

I am running Perrin's rotated kit with gt35 / .63 housing on a fully built motor with Cosworth cams (dual avcs, 08 sti). I am seeing 377 whp at 17.5 lbs of boost, and 414 at 21.5 psi. this is on 91 octane, so i am positive there is more "power on the table". There are a few things Jeff and I talked about in order to push the setup a little further with a simple hardware change and some small tuning things.
