Default Your thoughts on the Baja T v-a-v the Forester XT

Okay,

Looking to possibly replace the spouse's 01 Forester S with a Baja T. Have driven the 5MT and Autostick. What is your preference and why? For those of you with the Autostick, how do you get it to start out in "2" like you could with the previous 4EAT. Also, for those who chose the Baja T over the Forester T, what was your rationale?

I've driven both and frankly, I'm more impressed with the acceleration of the Forester XT 5MT than with either of the Baja T models but that's as far as I can subjectively differentiate (powertrain to powertrain). That said though, the Baja T seemed to "cruise" at a lower RPM (both 5MT and Autostick) which leads me to believe that they are geared differently v-a-v the XT as well . They really are different vehicles (platforms) and are designed for different purposes and to appeal to different segments within the "utility" market.

We haul a lot of stuff when we camp and will probably start using our trailer to haul wood and other camping stuff so giving that up in the Baja is not that major a concession.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Br, Dale
