Throttle by wire pisses me off.
I've driven a few drive by wire cars, my previous being a 350z, but in this WRX it's really pissing me off. It has ridiculous amount of rev hang, and it will even rev slightly when i depress the clutch stopping, that I thought there was something wrong with the throttle, and took it to the dealership. WAD of course.
Anyone else have this happen on their Subaru? It's annoying to me. I drove a Chrysler the other day and the throttle lag on that was hilariously bad as well. I have a feeling whatever computer controls the throttle on that my watch could do a better job.

Never had a single issue ever with an 08 LGT. Fine on the track, with double clutch heel and toe braking downshifts, fine on the street. I drove it 91k miles. The wife's Outback is drive by wire and I never even realized it until last night when I was getting code pulled at autozone and the guy wanted to tweek the throttle and couldn't find a throttle cable. Meh

There are tables in your ECU that control this feature. The settings from the factory are for smooth on/off throttle response at lower speeds.
If you have an AP you can download ATR and get rid of the throttle hang by adjusting the appropriate tables. I remapped both my throttle response and off throttle response so that the throttle responds the way I want it to when I push the pedal and it does not hang when I release the pedal. |

Legacy GT and STi (maybe some WRX now) have SI Drive which drastically alters throttle response through the I and S# modes. I tended to drive in I mode and when I switched to S#, I felt like someone turned on nitrous or something. |

I always thought/guessed that the negative bahaviours are caused somply by having a turbo. The fact that the pressurized air is forcing it's way into the engine is what causes it to seem like the throttle is open wider than it is until boost pressure drops.
Perhaps future throttle by wire computers can be programmed to make a turbo engine behave more like naturally asperated engine. |

My mom had one of the First mercedes with drive by wire. It would take a full second before it would respond.

jebjkey is right. I dealt with it for 2 autox seasons before I finally got it tuned out after my rebuild. Mine was pretty bad and un-nerving when I was WOT into a chicago box or about to approach my braking point and for a full second after I let off, I'm still accelerating/propelling forward.
Now, the throttle response when letting off is instant. |

Mine does this too. From what I've read, Honda products are even worse, so it's not something unique to Subarus. Throttle hang is a little weird at first, but you get used to it. As others have said, it can be adjusted with a tune.

Isn't there also a piggy-back type product that you can wire into your system and allows you to adjust and control just the dbw characteristics? I swear I saw a thread about it on here recently...

I just had mine O/S tuned. I = 40% WOT @ WOT S# = 100% WOT @ WOT. The tuner asked if I wanted S and S# to be the same, since it reverts back to S or I but not S# every time you restart the car. But I just left it alone. |

Anyone point me in the direction for instructions on how to tune this out? What tables, where? Thanks.

Twm has a pedalbox available to customize how the throttle reacts to your input.
