Colonial Subaru in Kingston, NY
A Subaru only dealership....the only one in the Hudson Valley of New York. Fair pricing, sometimes they dont like to negoitate on used vehicles (thats why I didnt buy from them...at the time they were also a Lincon/Mercury dealer). Since they dropped Lincoln and Mercury, they have a ton of used cars at great prices, decent condition for the most part (beautiful cars for the most part, some wear and tear on others, and some with minor body damage which they sell for cheap). Parts department is first class...they always give me some sort of discount, and service is reasonably priced and honest I feel.
I recomend them Any questions, shoot 'em my way. Kevin

I may be looking to buy a used car from them. You say they don't bend too much on used car prices? Do you know if that has changed at all since you posted? Does anyone else have experience with this dealership, are they aware of the i-club, are they friendly, is there someone specific I should work through? When I called and left a message I got a response in 5 minutes, that was nice.
Hopefully they'll come down on the price some... |

hey all! Sorry it took so long
Alright, When I delt with them (car buying) they were also a lincoln mercury dealer. Since then, they went to just Subaru and have the most inventory in the Hudson Valley....pretty competitive now I think. As for salesmen to work with, those have changed also, but they are always friendly it seems. Good luck with getting cars or just shopping with them guys! To my knowledge, there is no connection with the Colonial Subaru in CT. Cheers! Kevin |

Evidently they're the #1 Subaru dealer in NY now, which seems pretty impressive. The people I worked with were extremely nice and helpful, and although a lot of things went wrong, on pretty much everyone's part, the overall buying experience was good. I was confident that the car I was buying was in good shape, I just wish I had been buying it at a different time. Trying to coordinate everything ASAP during New Years was a mistake, but there wasn't any other time I could do it.
Overall I would certainly recommend the dealership as a place to buy, friendly salesmen, etc. I can't comment on the service dept, but I did notice that they offer free oil changes for life, plus 4-wheel alignments are only $50! So, this is definitely a place to check out if you're looking, talk to Jeff Leone and tell him Marc Sawaya sent ya. Of course, no one actually reads these forums unless they're searching for something, but that's how I found this thread, so I'm sure it'll turn up in the right hands. |

I've had thousands of dollars in work done there....they get stuff in fast, and do good work.
As for the free oil changes...yeah... You only get one when you pay for the recomended maintance interval every 15K or so FYI..I asked Since you mentioned a name, yes, Jeff Leone is a good person, and I know him and his family personally. Its nice to see you had a good experience! Kevin |

And I have heard WAY to many HORROR stories from bad Quick Lube places. Any sugestions, casue I am in collage and can't take care of it.

i just purchased a 99 rs from them. the used car prices are very firm, the dealer wouldnt budge much at all.
He was a really nice guy but when we sat down i started to feel i was getting the run around with the warrenty (i wonder if it was because i was 19). i explained how serious i was about the purchase and i could leave a deposit today but he really didnt seem to listen to me until i put my father on the phone with him. it was about a 2hr drive from me so i dont think ill be going back again except to pick it up, i didnt really feel 'satisfied' with my purchase though. no comments on service. my opinion is pretty neutral |

Don't buy from this place
My family and I have bought cars here over the years. I went to buy a car today thinking I would get the same service from the past, WRONG. I'm a young looking 36yr old male who was ignored for the first 20 minutes of being INSIDE the place. Little did they know I was a serious buyer with a wad of cash in my pocket. The sales person(new ex honduh salesman) was nice and the test drive went well, it was all down hill from there. When the test ride was over I was left in his little hot office while he left me to send a couple out on their test drive ALONE! First off I should have had his undivided attention, secondly I guess being a young looking male means I am untrustworthy. When he finally came back to me I thought he would have some numbers for me, instead he tells me he was busy with the other customers and hadn't even started with me yet(about 20 minutes later). So off he went to talk to the manager for another half hour and comes back with a price of about $200 below MSRP and a $3000 lowball offer on my trade, pathetic. This high/low offer came after I had been sitting in the hot office for 2 hours having never even been offered a beverage. After telling the salesman both offeres were unacceptable as well as the service he said he wanted my business and went back to the manager. I waited another 10 minutes for him to come back and tell me they were going to put in a few calls to see if they could get more for my trade...REALLY?! At this point I walked and they will never get my or my families( subaru drivers) business again. I buy new vehicles every 2 to 3 years, this would have been my fifth new car buying experience and the absolute WORST! Another thing to mention, the lady in the next office was in a debate with her salesman over a bunch of extra charges they added on AFTER they made a deal. The salesman was lying to her telling her that they were the only place that has plug and play harnesses for her remote start and that everywhere else will cut her wires up and hack into things, TOTAL BS! This place has gone down the toilet DON'T BUY HERE! This place is a pathetic waste of time.

^Thats too bad, I still would rather go here than Ruge's (the one across the river) though. Ruge's played some similar bait and switch crap with me as that other lady so they're no better. If you would ever give Colonial another chance ask for Phill next time. Let him know your a Subaru enthusiast and are a serious buyer. I agree what happened to you was a terrible way for it to be handled. Phill Formica has been there for a LONG time. He sold my mom a 95 legacy new.

Ordered and picked up my dgm impreza from colonial subaru. I worked with rob aka the ex honda guy portrayed above. My experience was actually very pleasant, didn't need to do much haggling on car price or trade in. They gave me a fair price right on target for the wholesale of the trade in and right at the price point I wanted for the new car. They also helped me out with my unusal requests and were always prompt with responses to questions i would ask. I was kept up to date on the status of my order and they really helped out when dealing with ny dmv and i currently reside in nj, and ny dmv was being extra annoying on pick up day. I even was able to meet the owner of the dealership, never had that happen before normally I deal with various managers and etc. I enjoyed my buying experience and was happy with my deal. I would also like to give a shout out to tires plus inc in kingston, really good bunch of technicians, super nice very good at their job mounted my wheels quite efficiently, even had food for customers as well as comfy seats and magazine. I spent 30 mins or so with the owner talking about cars, tires, and etc.

I have grown to dislike this dealership.
Recently I was looking for a new car, and on several occasions I tried to get them to match offers that I received from other dealerships on the car that I wanted, and they took days to get back to me, and then even after all of that they couldn't get the deal done. I ended up buying my car at Mid-Hudson Subaru across the river. On-top of all of the pain of buying a car from them, there service department sucks. It has the worst hours of any service department in the history of service departments. They are open M-F 8:00a - 5:00p. Who can work with those hours? If you want a loaner vehicle? You must be having MAJOR service done. You work right down the road, and you just want a ride? HA! Not a chance. If your thinking about this dealership, just do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. I talked to Ruge's over the phone, and even they were more accommodating than Colonial, but when it came down to it, every dealer in the area is leaps and bounds ahead of Colonial. |
