Default MY04 Sti HIDS direct plug and play in MY05 WRX?

Im purchasing a set of MY04 Sti HID headlights and need to know if they will be a direct bolt in plug and play in a MY05 WRX. Is the wiring all the same between the HID assemblies and my stockers or will I need a different harness from the Sti? Thanks, Rick.

Rick-
The short answer is No, they are not plug-and-play.
The longer answer: Search, this question has been answered numerous times and there is even a HID FAQ at the top of this forum. Heck, if you search you might even find a write-up that I did on how to install the STi HIDs into a WRX.

Most of the info is about the bugeyed hids and I wasn't sure if it were the same concept. Thanks for the info.

Bolt in, yes. PnP wiring, no. THe right way to do this is to create you own harness system. Pretty easy with about $20 in parts. I'm selling a set of my HIDs with this harness included (shameless plug), or if you are really interested, I can try to come up with a laymen's level circuit diagram on how to build one.

To make a truly plug and play solution - that's weatherproof - you'll need the factory connectors on the H1 and on the HID. If you can do that for 20 bux, your a magician...

Anything less, it's not the proper way to do it.

Default Cutting connectors

What if he decides to sell the car and wants to go back to stock? He's hooped.
What if he has to replace a light that's hardwired? He's hooped there too.

A proper adapter harness, using factory connectors, will enable him to swap lights without cutting, crimping or fuss. The proper HID connector at very least is needed to make that end weatherproof. The proper level connectors at the light and switch make it weatherproof and secure.

Wagons-ho I think i was reading a post somewhere that you were working on the parts for this swap if I remember correctly...Am I correct here and if so do you happen to have the parts and how much would they be? Sorry about the cross post the other has been moved.

Its as close as you can get without spending hundreds on new wiring. My method is fully heatstrunk and I have no question about its weatherproof nature. You don't like the method, fine, but don't come here and **** on me for finding another method that works 99.9% as well and offering to show people how to do it.

Ok, I'll step in with the fire extinguisher here. There are valid points on both sides.
In general I never recommend any type of installation where the factory wiring is cut to remove the OEM connectors and wire the lights in directly. This makes going back to stock (or even removing the lights for service or other reasons) more difficult and can diminish the value of the car at resale time. However, ultimately it's your car and you can do what you want with it. If you do choose to do a "cut and play" install at least make sure that all the connections are mechanically and electrically sound as well as fully insulated and sealed.
Aftermarket connectors are available if you want to make your own harness or wire the connectors directly to the lights themselves so they can then plug in to the factory plugs with no cutting. While the quality of said connectors may not be equal to factory spec ones they are sufficient as long as the above mentioned precautions are taken. Unfortunately the average person doesn't have access to the original connectors so while this is a nice way to go it isn't a viable option for most do-it-yourselfers.

So in short, the most important thing to bear in mind with these installs is to employ proper wiring methods.

I went with safer route --> making my own harness.

is it possible for water to leak INSIDE or under the front hood??? how about near battery area??

You've obviously not lived in a moist climate. I can show you corrosion on battery terminals from moisture, I can show you corrosion on Jim Hoyd harnesses from having vampire taps exposed to moisture, I can show you non-insulated headlight plugs with corrosion. It's everywhere and evil and being in a northern climate with salt on the roads just multiplies the problems...

And almost every connector (just in case someone finds one) in the engine compartment has these little rubber things on the wires - seals to seal the terminals from moisture. They could have saved 3cents a seal by avoiding sealed connectors if they thought there wasn't a potential problem with moisture.... just think how much they could have saved a car, how much they could have saved on a million cars...

I believe the best way to get a hold of him is to email him. I just bought a set of harnesses from him a couple weeks ago.

I tried to PM him but his box is full. dont have his email.

seeing as the rain is here and I need to drive my car I still need to rebuild my harness. I did a ghetto install that lasted a couple months shy of 2 years and one of the relays finally died. replaced the relay and it works now, but I wan't something a but cleaner than the hack job I did.

Do you by chance have a photo of the harness?
