Default Need help trying to figure out how to do this

I bought a vortex generator (shark fin looking thing) off ebay and suprisingly it doesent fit. So what I need to do is get the correct layout of the rear of the roof. Then I will take that template and put it on the back side of the V generator. Then cut the generator to the correct size. But I dont know how to make the template to the exact curve of the roof line, where it meets the top of the back window, so I can tranfer it. Can you guys recommend anything??
Thanks

What part of it doesn't fit? As far as I know with most of them, they fit better one you start laying it down, or if you use a heat gun and help soften and form it a bit.

The issue is with the back part of the generator does not match up with the curve of the top of the rear window. Once I get that cut, then I will have to trim the sides to fit, but like I said I need to get the curve of the of the rear part of the roof/upper curve of the top of the rear window. It was an ebay one that I bought for like $15, but I knew going into this that I would have to modify it to fit right

Ah ok, well good luck with that. Looks like you pretty much have it figured out. Just follow either measure twice cut once or cut less more times then more less times.

yea you might try laying it up and scribing a line on it that matches the contour of the roof line.

to approximate the curve
get a friend to help
get long straight edge.
mark it every 2 inches.
more if you want to be accurate.
put it across back of window where piece will go.
get it centered and even by fiddling until both sides measure the same distance from window to straight edge on the two outside edges.
once that distance has been established,
person 1 can hold the straight edge in place while person 2 takes additional measurements from glass to straightedge at the marked points.
(and writes down these distances!)

once you are done, the measurements can be transferred to paper,
and the curve approximated by 'connecting the dots'.
a flexible piece of something (fiberglass rod) is best for this step.

kind of like this

or, find a really big countour gauge.

Ok, choice 1-spend $200-$300 for one and put it on.

Choice 2- buy the cheap one off ebay=$15, do a little work to it, hmmmmmm

sorry I made the wrong choice BTW, I have sourced the material and I am going to make my own wind splitter that will look exactly like the APR one
APR=$320+
Mine=material $120 and a little time, priceless. Its cool, some people have a lot of money, but no mechanical skills. You go ahead and spend your money

I know I know, just busting your chops though I've seen ebay version fit with no mods needed. I think the one I used to have was a ebay version and I didn't have to mod it so I guess it's hit or miss.

There is always the chance they sent you the wrong one.

When I ordered a CF hood scoop for my 02 they sent me one for a GC-8.

Has anyone else installed these without problems or is this common?

Maybe you got a universal fit one.
