So let me get this straight, no gaskets required? Just slap it on and go?

O-rings replace gaskets....since theres no O-ring between the spacer and block you will need a gasket there

Not tring to be a dick but this is pretty simple. If your asking these questions you might wanna have a pro do the install.

depends on the year XT, but you may have too.

stock bolts work fine.

1. This is for SG9 Forester XT (06-08) with cast aluminum manifolds, which couple of intakes have you discovered need slot? Forester XT 06-08 one of them?
2. Do you provide Torque specs with the product?
3. Judging by pics seems the overmolded brass inserts have a different thread that stock bolts, is this just an optical illusion and indeed we can reuse stock bolts to mount the TGV to manifold and head?

You are being a dick, TiC said No gaskets if getting the right TGV, now you say gasket is needed, you see.. the question is justified, the way TiC worded the reply seems to imply no need for gaskets which is INCORRECT if there are no O-rings in the bottom of TGV, then a gasket is needed between TGV and head.

So basically we do not need this:

Because this groove holds an O-ring.

And need this:

Because there is no groove to hold an O-ring. Mating surface is flat hence a gasket is required to seal TGV to head.

TiC for Version 2 you should consider a press-in rubber gasket in bottom of TGV to eliminate the need for an OEM gasket. And develop a sliding threaded bushing to mate to different manifolds instead of having us mess with slotted manifolds.

Relax there buddy! I thought TIC worded it very well but can see how someone could get confused. I thought I made it clear in what I said below

Not sure if I'm reading your post right but it seems like you saying there isnt a o-ring on the bottom of the TGV? Cause the set I have infront of me have o-rings on both sides.

The one you posted is for a plastic intake manifold I assume or pre-production?

Dude make up your mind!!! You said there is no O-ring between the spacer and block, now you say there is O-rings on both sides, what is it??
The one I posted is the one TiC posted at the beginning of this thread. If it is a prototype they surely are making things confusing.

LOL not everyone runs a spacer bro!!!!

If you put only this part NO SPACER on a 02-07 wrx/sti you will not need a gasket

Still confused?

And yes they come with tq specs

Yes, still confused, what are you calling an spacer? There is a manifold, a TGV, and the heads. You cannot mount the TGV directly to the head without a gasket/O-ring.

So let me get this straight, for metal intakes the plastic TGV has both top and bottom O-rings and for plastic intakes the plastic TGV comes only with O-rings on top?

He edited his post but it said something like "will I need a gasket between a Phenolic Intake Manifold Spacer and the block"
http://www.grimmspeed.com/catalog/pr...products_id=41

So yes he needed a gasket for the spacer to block but not TGV to spacer.

Still think you shoulda called me a dick?

I want to know why there is a picture with no bottom O-ring, and you are saying yours came with top and bottom O-rings.

A phenolic spacer still needs a gasket on both sides of the spacer whether you are dealing with plastic or metal. I seriously doubt you can achieve a good seal between plastic and phenolic material without a gasket.

Only the bottom since the top has the O-ring from the bottom of TGV. They do go between the block and TGV right?

While the first batch of TGVs didnt have o-rings, on both sides, I can tell you the one I got from the 1st GB have them ON BOTH sides. I have it in my left hand as I type this

It makes sense to have them on both sides and is proly the reason TIC did so.

So very simple, if theres a o-ring you wont need a gasket at that connection but if theres no o-ring you will

Well, here is the key to the Shenanigans, first batch no O-ring on both sides, then you were being a dick since most of us didn't know that and TiC still shows only a picture of the first batch. Now redeem yourself by posting a pic.

Holy crap this got confusing fast. Let me fill everyone in.

1) The picture you see is recycled from a post, and show the prototype part.
2) There was full description of all of this in the first post, BUT I had to edit it out as I ran across the character limit. If you're late into this thread I can see how that would be confusing.
3) ALL production TGV risers have O-rings on the bottom for sealing to the head.
3) ALL production TGV risers for use with a metal intake manifold have O-rings on the top for sealing to the intake manifold.
4) ALL production TGV risers for use with the OEM plastic intake manifold do NOT have O-rings because the OEM plastic manifold already has O-rings.
5) IF you are using phenolic spacers (for reverse mount intake or any other reason) the TGV will seal to the spacers because they have an O-ring. Sealing the spacers to the block will require a solution that is up to you. OEM gasket from a TGV will work VERY nicely for this.

I REALLY hope this clarifies things for everyone.

1) not sure for sure, but if you need to slot them it's not difficult
2) 6 lbs manifold to TGV. 6 lbs TGV to head. Specs are included in the box.
3) Same size and pitch as stock. You can reuse the bolts.

I don't think these go well with phenolic spacers and gasket. Getting strange misfires but haven't fully traced it yet. When I replace short blocks I'm redoing a few things so won't know for sure.

But I spool faster and make more power than expected.

Did a turbo swap, injectors, fuel lines, FPR, inlet swap, FMIC, complete intake, spark plugs, ACT streetlight flywheel, Grimmspeed crank pulley, and meth at the same time as this. Order of parts heads up: heads -> 3mm phenolic spacer with lower gasket -> composite TGV housing with o-ring and no gasket -> intake manifold with o-ring and no gasket. Used a new gasket for the heads to spacer.

Idle misfires on all 4 cylinders. New plugs, new injectors, no change swapping around coil packs, low load misfires on all 4, no pattern I can see yet. No misfires under load. Did a BUNCH of mods at the same time so it could be anything. Might be leaking inlet coupler, might be leaking FMIC couplers, might be change in catch can routing,.... lot of "might be" but no real evidence to say what it really is. Re-used a few gaskets that looked good as I already planned to change them for a fresh piece during motor build. BOV gasket leaked over 22psi, throttle body gasket doesn't seem to leak but might also leak over a certain psi, can't find any other leak and misfires are random.

Revised my fuel lines so both banks get equal length parallel fuel lines (kinda helped). Before they were parallel but ran out of line and fittings so had to do an unequal parallel setup which still worked.

EDIT: Just to be clear this is a strange misfire that's been a monster to trace and correct. It will probably be something silly as it is random and doesn't happen under meaningful load. Idle misfires I pretty much ignore as it could be the lightened flywheel and crank pulley. I haven't noticed a repeatable pattern yet so it could literally be anything. Hell the rings might be letting too much blowby through which could cause a misfire.
