Awesome change. That's good to hear. How many miles do you have, 79? I'm sure you mentioned it already, but I'm too stupid to check the beginning of this thread

so I guess you automatically know when there's a problem with an o2 sensor (check engine) or an overheating issue (temp gauge/sensor) or whether or not you SRS system is ready to engage( airbag warning)? Congrats on having your cars ECU wired to your brain!

That's 2 horsepower, horizontally aligned. I wonder if they do dressage like Anne Romney's champion?

Well - I just made a service appointment at Mastro- didn't even have to give them the gory details. Told them I was unhappy with Bill Bryan and needed some warranty work. She listened to my list of problems, said "bring it on in saturday, and we'll have a loaner for you". I feel a lot better now. Mastro has a great reputation. Its just a drive...

Good luck. Sounds like the right move. And if Mastro takes good care of you, I'm sure you'll give them a solid plug in the Dealership Review forum.

I will definitely praise Mastro Subaru if they fix my seat and do the oil consumption test.
I'm gonna look real hard at some leftover 2011's also!

When you say leftover 2011s, do you mean a slightly used car, or a new leftover 2011? I wouldn't think there would be any new 2011s left at this point. But if there is, I'm sure you could get a good price.

Its only been consuming since approximately 6000 miles, and the oil was changed at 7500, after the light came on and had been topped off with a whole quart. Since the dealer change (never again!) Its dropped maybe 1/4" on the dipsatick. I think, and this is pure guesstimation, a conservative estimate would be a quart in about 2500-3000mi, but its still way too soon to know what's going on. What ticked me off was that the dealer was supposed to fix my seat, rear hatch, and steering column. And do an oil consumption test. This was scheduled in advance. When I showed up for my service appointment the guy told me- "oh, didn't anyone tell you? Your seats on backorder. And we're too busy to see you. Come back monday." So I did. And they simply changed the oil, and rotated the tires. No consumption test. And no guess at all when the parts would be available. Being told "any of these new high tech cars burn oil".

i'm definitely curious to see what your ultimate consumption ends up being. 1 qt for every 3000 is still a bit high, but more liveable and acceptable. i'm at 2600 miles and i think mine has dropped roughly 1/8" on the dipstick. i'm very curious to see where my oil comes up to with 5 qts in the system when i change it (likely this weekend).

my current guess is that the dipstick may be poorly calibrated.

if that is the case, do you think that perhaps, when they drained your car to get to the "high mark" that already put you 0.5qts or more lower than 5.3, thereby accelerating the time when you warning light came on?

Here in central fl, the dealers still have 2011's. I know at least Bill Bryan does. But if I find an 11' or even a year or so earlier, with the same or less miles and can work out an even trade or maybe even come out a little ahead, I may go for it.
Or maybe go the James Wilson route and trade to a wrx ftw.

That's exactly what I think. Thank you!!!!

I'm just not too keen on it even burning any amount approaching a quart in an oc interval. Let alone more than a quart. I really just want to get to the bottom of what's going on, and if I don't think its 100% fine and not burning excessive amounts of oil, I'm going to weigh my options. I do know I want awd though.

...and therefore, way too soon to be raising hell and getting punted from dealerships.

You're telling me a squeaky seat (with a known fix) and (possible) mild oil consumption is enough for you to call your car a lemon, and replace it with... an Audi?

Well damn, soa just told me on the phone that burning a full quart of oil in 3000 miles is PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE!!! That was Grant, who told me that. I'm done with Subaru, they even told me the seat won't be fixed very soon, and that Mastro won't be doing any work saturday or even very soon, damn it subaru sucks balls.

We're still talking about a hypothetical quart in 3K miles. If you're done with Subaru, give 0w30 a try.

No- subaru's lack of response and the fact that they won't stand behind their product. I was just told by Grant that my seat would have to be evaluated and reordered and that they weren't going to perform an oil consumption test. He told me on speakerphone in front of witnesses that BURNING A QUART IN 3000 MILES IS ACCEPTABLE. So much for saturday. If/when I get an Audi and it burns excessive amounts of oil I'd be just as pissed off. Grant also told me that even though they had warranty repairs on their records as being needed, they can't just send a rep to the dealer or transfer any of the info about my documented problems. Mastro will have to document it all and start EVERYTHING from scratch. I personally don't think Grants answers were what I'd consider to be representative of a company that gives a crap about customer satisfaction.

A quart in three thousand miles is a nuisance. I cannot blame Subaru for refusing you an engine transplant on the house. Not everything that is abnormal warrants a rebuild. European cars are not for you, my friend.

All my VW's and Audi's were great, and NEVER burned oil. My 02 GTI had a crappy transmission and it was PROMPTLY replaced. European cars have been good to me as have hondas and nissans. This subaru isn't panning out. By the time this thing hasa 100k or so on it how much oil will it be burning?

And I didn't say I wanted a new engine, I said I wanted the oil consumtion test as I was promised. They don't even care enough to get someone other than their tele-cs people involved and for the record- burning a quart of oil in a few thousand miles isn't what I call innovative, efficient, or modern. It makes me think of the stories my mom told me about her old chevy vega. She said she had to top off the oil every fillup. Lol the battery even looks like its from the 70's.

The more interesting question is - Did you use any oil except for the the 0-20 Syn that is prescribed?
