Replaced fluid with US cocktail and it works great.

The bluing is part of the manufacturing process. I can't remember what temp it takes to turn steel blue, but it's incredibly high.

All that being said a center diff problem could be present, but there isn't enough information to say exactly what's going on.

perhaps a video/sound clip of the noise would help at this point

Or just get it warmed up again with a 20+ mile drive and drive in circles at full lock.

Here is a fun one. I know my center diff bearings need changed. And i plan on cracking the case open next week. But this fun sound popped up this week as well. Im thinking that one of the bearings has completely eaten itself up at this point. The sound is when i'm in neutral and coasting.

yep that's the sound of a bad bearing. Now the question is how bad and what happened to the bearings? Did it simply make noise or has it broken the cage or worse. In my case the bearings on the diff were still there but the cage was mostly missing this cause parts for get ground up and was through out the trans. So it took out the front bearings as well.

No I did the rear diff bearings but that was not enough. I now need the front bearings redone but not something I can tackle. As its a lot more difficult. I have yet to have it done but I know what's going on after so many problems with the 5 speed.

Ok, so the center diff had an assplosion and then the chunks got into the front diff but didnt affect the main transmission gears (1-5,R)?

Yes it can if you let it go to long. once you start hearing sounds you are already have a problem. If you let it go. Then you repair bill grows the louder the sound gets or how lucky you are or not.

Tore down the diff tonight. Luckily no bearings had separated. Very small amount of anything on the drain plug. The one thing I did notice was a large amount of play in the bearings attached to one of the rods. Which rod has the smaller bearing pressed to the very end? And does this rod always spin, even when not in gear? If so, then I am fairly confident that the loud sound came from this bearing.

Spin the bearing by hand hard. If it sounds odd or crunchy. Likely the cause. Hard to explain. I used to work on medical centrifuges. Loose play is a fair indication but not always 100% accurate. When installing new ones make sure they are full seated. Don't over press them. The book has specs on pressing and spacing but if you look at it. It simply states in measurements that don't over press them. Book makes it sound like rocket science. Not even close to being difficult.

everything in the tail section spins with the driveshafts, regardless of clutch or gear.

OK great, thank you!

Once my parts show up next Wednesday I'll reinstall and update.

Got everything reinstalled last night. Seems to have fixed my initial sounds and problems. But now i have a new sound. Im assuming since the fluid im running in my transmission is not as thick this time, the sound may have been there before, but now is more apparent. I am running straight Motul 300 this time. Last time was a Motul 300/Lightweight shockproof mix. So we will see. I have a 300 mile drive this Friday i am taking. Hopefully I dont have to use my roadside assistance.

whats your new sound? I have a clunk when transitioning from accel and decel after the first time I did mine, which turned out to be that this dummy left a shim sitting on the table.

That would suck. No, no shims left. The one shim was in place and the washer was in place as well. This is a low decibel, almost muffled, click. But its a click that is continues because it is caused by something round. It only happens when i come off the gas, in gear.

Double check your drive shaft and the center bearing. Specially if this didn't happen before.
