Default Raw Fuel Smell....

I posted this in the NA forum but noone responded in a day and a half so I figured I'd check w/ you locals. I tried doing a search and the only thing I could find was for the WRX's. My issue is on my OBS.

I've primarily noticed this issue when first starting up the car. I haven't really paid attention after it's been running for awhile, but the exhaust has a heavy gasoline smell to it. Is this the sign of a failing cat or an ECU problem running it too rich?

thanks Bill... I think the failing cat is probably the problem. The car's 6 years old and was barely used so all that sitting around may have ruined the cat.

I got it now. On my 03! And they said in the TSB #09-36-03 that it was corrected on 03's. Who wants to put money on them telling me my removing the snorkus caused it?

mine only does it on REAL cold days...when it's warmer out, no smell at all. It's the cold start during this nasty winter weather

All engines run rich on cold start-up. You're probably just smelling it now because the cat is dead.

The gas smell from the '02 WRX doesn't have anything to do with the exhaust.. it has to do with engine leaking from the fuel rails on top of the block, and the fumes being blown into the cabin by the HVAC.

I have this issue on my 1981 VW Rabbit Diesel.... But I don't care.... I love the smell of a Diesel engine in the morning Like Coffee for my brain
