to those in cold weather climates (clutch problem)...
To those in cold climates...it recently got a bit chilly here in Chicago and I am having problems putting the car into 1st and 2nd gear, not so much when the car is at a dead stop, but when i try going from a rolling position. Is this normal? I have a my2001 and I've had it for 2 months now (my first manual car). I know people have had problems with syncros, but frankly I have no clue about that subject, since I've only know to drive a manual for 2 months now. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks, Nirmit

Might consider getting a shifter bushing. 1st is sorta sticky on mine too, but the bushing helped alot. Less squirm when putting it into gear. Runs about $30 and takes 10min to put on.

i think the problem lies in how the clutch is adjusted. before i adjusted mine i had to push the clutch ALL the way to the floor just to get a clean shift, and i couldn't even think about downshifting into 1st above 4-5 mph. now i have no problem shifting up or down. here is a link to the clutch adjustment page

I wouldn't worry about the shifting.....my 99 has done that all along and continues to do it. Of course I am assuming that it goes away pretty quickly after the tranny warms up, right? I like to let my car warm up before I drive it (bascially until I see the temp needle move, I like to let it rise to horizontal position), and this tends to lessen this problem. I want to swtich to a synthetic tranny fluid since the Redline in my '66 Pontiac's gearbox made such a difference.....but after doing some searching here on the board I haven't decided which kind to get. Synthetic fluid would thicken less than regular fluid, so that would halp a bit when it got cold.

I wouldn't worry about that either. My MY00 did that for the first couple thousand miles, but it seems to have all but disappeared now.
