Default Premature Inner tire wear

I just finished my fourth tire rotaion today with 31000 on the OD and I noticed that all 4 tires are worn really bad on the inside edge. Im still on the stock Yokos and am hoping to get through the summer with them but they're not looking so good.

Anyway, I had my alignment checked a couple thousand miles ago and was told that everything was good. So now I'm wondering if this type of inner tire wear is normal for this car? Anyone else experiencing this as well?

I think there was more wear on the outside edge when I checked last. The inner edge looked surprisingly unscathed after about the same mileage.

I am having a similar issue. 20,000mi on stock Yoko's with no modifications. Fixed a puncture last Friday and the mechanic noted that my tires are also wearing on the inside. He asked me if I had modified my suspension as that kind of wear is typical for lowered vehicles. Will be checking the alignment very soon.

Hmm... I'll have to mention it to the dealership when I go back in a couple weeks. Thats where I got the alignment done in the first place. Funny they didnt mentioned anything to me about the tires wearing bad.

Were you the one that noticed the rear of your car sitting lower than the front when i mentioned it a while ago?

If the rear changes in angle the fronts also suffer.

My rear does sit a little lower than my front, but from what I've read here on NASIOC, thats quite common.

I do the rotation when I swap between my summer and winter tires. When I remove the currently-mounted wheels/tires for my seasonal changes, I mark the location the wheel was mounted ("FR" for "front right", for example) on the inside of the wheel with chalk. Then when it's time to re-install that set of wheels/tires, I follow the proper rotation pattern.

Every 7500 miles. I bring the fronts straight back and criss cross the rears to the front.

If you dont hav3 directional tires a X rotation is best. It gets rid of feathering and evens out the wear on your tires and makes them last a lot longer. But do know that once you have a wear pattern going you'll never get rid of it. And I rotate tires every oil change

^He's just following what is said in the manual for tire rotations. And for us, 7500 miles is about every oil change

Is that right? I never knew it said that in the manual but I do that because that's how we've done it at work for years and it makes the most sense and proven to work

For Bi-directional tires, like the ones on our Impreza, it does say that

I had inside wear also. I replaced my stock Yoko's at 19,800+ miles after one tire suffered a razor blade puncture. Tires were rotated every 5,000 miles and all were 4/32" on the inside, 6/32" on the outside. You were told everything was good but were you shown the actual results? My front right wheel was out of spec. I posted it in a thread I did back in March...'12 Impreza Alignment

In thinking the rear tires are the culprit. I've thought mine were toed out from the factory, I.e. looks like its squatting in rear.

Same problem. Mechanic at the dealership said he "never saw inside wear like on these Avids". Seemed unlikely to me that it could be the tires' fault, so I had them do an alignment. He said everything was within spec, but both the front and rear toe were "out a little bit", and he "zeroed them out". So what to make of this, I don't know. If it's in spec, why would the tires have excess inside wear?

Did the car feel any different after the alignment (especially the steering)?

Inside tire wear is a alignment problem either A- toe issues or B-camber issues if u can upload a print out of the alignment they did it would help a lot more

Took the tread depth gauge out to my tires yesterday and didn't find anything significant. The inside of the tires seem a bit more worn (smoother), but it's <1mm difference. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it.

I still haven't gotten my free alignment (1 from Subaru, don't let your dealer charge for it), and was waiting for most of the potholes to be filled from the winter before I got it.

My car's due for its first NYS inspection, so I called the dealer to see if I could get a free alignment too (or at least have them hook it up to the machine to confirm that the alignment is in spec). The service writer I was speaking to when making the appointment asked me what symptom I was experiencing to make me think I needed this check (tire wear, misaligned steering wheel, car pulls to one side, etc.). I said that there were no symptoms; I just wanted confirmation that all was good.

He said that they wouldn't do that service for free unless there's a symptom to justify it. So I'll be buying a tire gauge today to confirm that all tires are wearing correctly. But from eyeballing it, I haven't noticed any unusual wear issues.
