Abnormal front disc wear pattern
Hey guys,
I noticed a weird brake pattern on my left driver's side front rotor today. I recently had Hawk HPS pads and stainless lines installed with Super blue fluid, and the were rotors turned. That was about a month and a half ago. Today was the first time I have really dogged the brakes since the installation, enough such that some fluid apparently spilled on the caliper was smoking off when I stopped. The rotors were quite hot (duh), even after a minute or two of driving at lower speed down a long driveway. The pattern is deep enough to easily feel, maybe one or two thou deep/built-up -not sure which- already. I haven't noticed any sound or shudder. I was planning on going to the track next week, so I'm hoping this is a simple thing. Anybody have any thoughts? Pics below! Driver's Side (Abnormal) Passenger's Side (Normal)

Looks like chatter from when the rotor was turned.

If it doesnt vibrate or make noise, it should be fine. You will smooth it out during the first few laps

Weird, I know many people who have done HPDEs on HPSs without issue. They must be doing something wrong.

As much as I hate to agree with Scotty...
The HPS really are garbage. They couldn't even handle 3 laps without fading on my 2000lb CRX with Integra Type R sized brakes. What makes you think they will be any better on a 3000lb WRX? |

HPS' are trash. Lousy cold bite, horrible coefficient of friction in general, and miserable temperature tolerance. The only thing the HPS has going for it is a great marketing department that manages to sucker fresh n00bs every day. Then they're all cause they wonder why their brakes suck. |

I ran the HPS, daily driving and autocross. They were ok, but really just felt like stock replacements to me. I never pushed them on a circuit track, but they were certainly nothing to write home about.
I did actually go with them after they 'seemed' to be the 'best'. Their marketing is great. I won't be going with them next time, but they were not total trash.. just probably not what you want for the track. |

Ok, getting back to the issue at hand: my rotors have a strange wear pattern. If you want to make a thread to trash the pads, that's OK. I don't regret buying them unless they're responsible for this weirdness. I'm concerned about my brakes. I'd much appreciate helpful comments and info. Thanks.

you were already given the most helpful comments and suggestions and it may be that the rotors were improperly 'cut'----I would NEVER-EVER 'cut' a rotor....and they are now garbage...which is likely if you dont know how to measure them then maybe replacing them is the best idea i dont post out my ass or give bad advice....and i had hps pads on my car just long enough to know that they were **** and i threw them in the ****can where they belong |

Really? You turned down a rotor, twice, that doesn't really have enough meat on it to turn down even once. Win... not.

If it doesn't shake or create disturbance, it should be excellent. You will sleek it out during the first few temps. . .
