Have a race this weekend http://www.5430sports.com/5430sprint.htm. First race since Sep last year and on a brand new bike.
This is her. But in race trim she has a disc rear and zipp front wheel. Rode it the other night with the race wheels and it felt good. There is nothing quite the like the sound of a disc wheel when you get it moving.

Will get a better pic this weekend.

I missed out this morning by about an hour on an 08 Rockhopper base model for $250 in a 21" frame It's so hard to find anything in 21" frame size let alone the bike I want.

Pretty close. I think it was around $2,500 but I got it at some rediculous almost 50% off sale. Its looks money with the race wheels on it!

I was going to say that's a good price, my carbon frame and fork alone was $2000

I think the majority will come from the store with clinchers, but race wheels still have a good percentage of tubulars.

People seem to be moving away from tubulars because they're scared of changing them.

Nah, gave up the snowboarding around 5 years ago. Wasn't good enough to be convinced I wouldn't put myself into a tree. I boarded up at Canaan and Timberline (eastern panhandle of WV) back when I did board, though. I've only been living in the Kanawha valley for 3 years or so.

Meh, I've always used SPD and don't believe in clipless/platform pedals. Clip in, commit or walk.

you've never tried them? really? wow....I've owned 4-5 SPD sets over the years....no comparison. Last set I had were 858's and the basic Egg Beaters were superior in every way.

Those did suck, IIRC.

I've have 959's on my MTB and road bike for years, no real reason to change them. The only time I had a problem getting the pedals to engage was when they were clogged with clay and pine needles, and I like the ability to crank up the tension.

that would be true. worst Shimano pedals I owned despite them being 'top of the line' at the time. The switch to the Crank Bros was a revelation. Free float and no hard engagement
