Opinions On this setup?
I want to start off by saying i have very little car audio experience.
I recently picked up a few parts very cheap and wanted to see if they were worth putting into my car. I picked these two up for 50 bucks. Alpine E-12 sub already in a box. And also a rockford fosgate Punch P250.2. And i am running an aftermarket headunit with stock speakers all around. Now my goals are not to have the crazyest system on the block but just add some bass. I listen to mostly heavy rock espically with heavy double bass As well as some rap/Hiphop. Thanks...Trevor

Go for it... It sounds like a good power match, between the sub and the amp... you'll need a wiring kit, if you plan on doing the job yourself.. Is that something you think you can handle?
If so, Kicker makes great wiring kits, that are very reasonable for what you get.. I'd go with a 4 gauge kit, so if you decided to go bigger later, you'd have it in place and not needing an upgrade, unless you went REALLY big.. lol.. Does your HU have a sub output?, if so, that's good and makes things easier.. What is it exactly? That would make it easier for us to check out features.. |

also thanks for the imput on the kicker kits. I wasnt sure if they were worth it. My headunit is a cheaper double din unit. It is a Valor DDA-650-WT. Which i think should be able to handle this setup pretty well? |

Cool...
Yeah, the kicker kits are just amazing for the money really.. Doing the work will save a bunch to.. I couldn't find much on the HU though.. but if you have a sub out, your good.. if it's got internal crossovers, that would be better... |

Don't matter, the amp has a crossover, but check the HU anyway.... that will offer front seat control over the sub in every way, and you can chose not to use the amp crossover if you like... I like HU control myself though..

Well, it's not an exact science. My suggestion, while Aaron's was great (more aimed to someone with a LITTLE more experience), is to use the amp crossover because it's simpler. Set it to LPF (Low Pass Filter, it only allows low frequencies to pass through), and try it from 60-100ish, and go with whichever sounds better. It will be smoother with a lower setting, because it's only letting frequencies through that are below that point, and using a higher sound will add a little more punchy sound, and allow a better blend for your midrange speakers (depending on many things). I typically find the ideal spot in most systems to be right around 70-90. And yes, Google for the amp kit, many many places carry them. This one's perfect, and at a good deal http://www.etronics.com/p-39353-kick...ame=GoogleBase Good luck! |
