2.5 shortblock mated to 1.8 heads, will they bolt up?
I am almost possitive from reading old posts that all ej- motors are interchange able, shortblocks and longblocks.....but if so....other questons.
possible cr? how would i figure that one, say i used a phase 2 from a 00 or 01 shortblock. i would rebuild the head as well, and possibly some porting of sorts, as the 1.8 heads flow not so well.... well anyways if anyone has done this, please chime in.... -mikey |

Translation: The 1.8 heads aren't doing a great job of filling the cylinders at 1.8 liters, so how are they going to fill cylinders of 2.5 liters?
Not very well |

Look up the spec on the valve sizes and then decide if it's going to be easy to get an EJ18 head to flow like a EJ25. While you're at it look at Kostamojen's thread on fitting EJ20 heads to the EJ25 block and see how the valves are placed on the EJ18 heads.
I'm repeating myself, so I'll **** after this: It's not worth it. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...highlight=EJ20 http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=492724 |

how bout ej22 heads ?
not worth it unless you have an extra ej25 sitting around and your legacy wagon needs a block...
will my ej25 from my 98 2.5rs fit on my 91 legacy ej22 heads? I think they are the same heads as the 1.8 correct? |

yeah for the money your best bet is to swap block and heads from the 2.5 and bolt to the intake manifold as this should be the most inexpensive way to get power without rewiring
