Hi there

I have made it to page 56 and can't read anymore.

Are the, "15X6.5 Sport Edition D5", rims still made? These are the ones that fit the MY 2006 WRX sport Wagon, right? They can fit over the the stock 4 pots?
I am trying to get the specs so I can order the right 15" wheels for the coming winter.

I have called TireRack and 1010tires (preferred to avoid duty) both people were not sure what I was talking about.
Thank you for your help.

^ Tirerack shows that 16" is the smallest size that will fit.

They still list the D5, but not on the product page.

you shouldn't necesairily go by that though. Tirerack has a threshold for comfort that they wont go below. For example, they wont show the enkei RC-G4 15" for the 2010 wrx but but both luke and Enkei international confirmed that they'll clear the breaks by 2mm, which enkei says is more than sufficient, and seing as they are the rims used by many professional wrx rally cars i don't see any reason to doubt it.

i'm really on the fence with 15" rims my self. I'd really like them for peace of mind and aesthetics, but any that are worth getting will run me at least 930$ and since i'm not doing any rallying, the question is whether or not its really worth it vs a 17" stocky and when I could just put the money towards a nice set of summers.

Hi Luke, all:

year: 2006
make: Subaru
model: Impreza STI
location: NJ/NYC, upstate NY, VT, UT, ID, WY, MT, etc.
tires only or winter package: Tires only

I'm looking for a performance snow tire to replace my V-rated Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25. I was happy with these tires but it looks like they only come in RFT for my size now (225-45/17) -- not interested in RFT. I'm hesitant to experiment with new brands but I have been satisfied with Dunlop summer tires before. Is the new V-rated Dunlop SP Wintersport 3D a good replacement for the LM-25? H-rated tires are not adequate for this application. What are your recommendation(s)?

--
For a different car, do you know the wheel weights for these steelies that are currently on sale at Tirerack:

"16X6.5 New Steel Wheel Black Painted for 2006 Subaru Outback Wagon 2.5I Base Model"

And how is the weight compared to the old steelies from Tirerack (circa 10/2007):

"16x6.5 5-100 et50 cb56 st new" (for 2006 Subaru Outback Wagon 2.5I Base Model)

Thanks in advance!

Theres a ton of information here and I've sifted through enough to know what I want.

I just need above all else, something that wont put wear and tear on my car. I know AWD cars can be sensitive to tire diameter changes and I can't afford to screw that up so I need to do this legit. Same offset and everything.

I'm looking to go the 16"/snow tire route if at all possible, otherwise I'll have to put all seasons on the stock wheels, which I would like to avoid due to cost/performance compromises.

I know people are just going steelies/snow tires but how will this effect the AWD system?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm capable of finding the tires I want, I just need help with the technical aspects of this conversion.

thanks.

As long as all 4 wheels and tires are the same (and have the same amount of tread depth), the 16" setup will not affect the AWD.

16" old WRX wheels and snows works fine on mine:

I think they were reassuring the previous poster who lamented, "I know AWD cars can be sensitive to tire diameter changes"

(2 tires of the same spec will have a difference in diameter that is twice the difference in tread depth between the 2 tires -- ignoring air pressure, loading, etc.)

The answer is in your owners manual:

STI:

NOTE
. If the tire pressures are not correct and/or the tires are not all the same size and brand, the rear differential will be heavily loaded when the vehicle is driven, resulting in an abnormally high oil temperature.
. The rear differential oil will deteriorate if its temperature increases enough for the rear differential oil temperature warning light to illuminate. It is advisable to have the rear differential oil replaced as soon as possible.

All Subarus:

When replacing a tire, make sure you use only the same size, construction, brand, and load range as the original tires listed on the tire placard. Using other sizes, circumference or construction may result in severe mechanical damage to the drive train of your vehicle and may affect ride, handling, braking, speedometer/odometer calibration, and clearance between the body and tires. It also may be dangerous and lead to loss of vehicle control.

The following precautions should be observed in order to ensure that the Vehicle Dynamics Control system is operating properly:
– All four wheels should be fitted with tires of the same size, type, and brand. Furthermore, the amount of wear should be the same for all four tires.

thank you. this is good stuff because subaru provided me ONE tire onder warranty when there was a bubble in the sidewall of a factory tire. Clearly they should've provided me with 4. I have my 30,000 checkup on tuesday. I'm highlighting this and bringing it to them.

How many miles had been on the car when the tire got replaced? How much of a difference was there in wear? If the difference is small enough, then it's no big deal. If it was a few 32'nds then it might be an issue.

The Dunlop M3 is the old model, prior to the WinterSport 3D. The newest WinterSport is the 4D, not yet available in North America AFAIK. The 3D is an excellent replacement for the LM25.

Thank you sir

I can't find anything in the press release for the 4D that indicates when they'll be available in North America

Does anyone know when the Dunlop WinterSport 4D will be available in the US?

I can wait 1-1.5 months but then I'm going to have to pull the trigger on whatever is available

Just ordered the 16" Steelies with the Dunlop Wintersport 3D's, not sure if the order supported NASIOC, but I did use the link. I was hoping it would show NASIOC on the order, but I don't see it.

Default My winter set-up

I just picked up my order from Discount Tire. 16" steelies with Michelin x-ice xi2. 205/55r16. No tpms, I'll deal with the flashy light! $70 michelin rebate and a $60 rebate for the tire/rim combo for using the car care card with 6mos 0%. Total out the door before rebates was $850.
I don't think it'll look half bad! Bring on the snow!!

I have set of 215/45/17s left over from my 06 but they need wheels.. I can run these on my 2011 with no issues, right? What wheel should I look to get? TireRack is recommending anything from a 17x7.5 to a 17x9.... 17x7.5e48 should be ok, right?

I'll try continental extreme contact dws tires. Couldn't decide on which winter tires I should get. I have a 2011 WRX sti sedan. I'll post my experience with these tires when the snow hits Colorado springs.

This might been asked before but I couldn't find it.

So I am using stock BBS rims (8" wide) on my 05 STI.

would it be better if I go for narrower snow tires (205/50/17)

or should I just stick with stock size (225/45/17)

I recall hearing that its better to have narrower tires for snow so I just want to make sure before I purchase.

Thanks
