Default Autocrossing on SPEED channel at 9pm EST tonight

The SPEED channel program "On the Edge" is featuring an Autocross from Hutchinson, Minnesota tonight at 9pm Eastern Standard Time. Its not very common to see something like this televised. I'm sure a few of you may get a kick out of it.

watching right now, for some reason there is no cones, pavement, and these cars are straight from a demolition derby with chained up doors and all. But the announcers keep calling it "autocross". I'm dissapointed. Somebody over at SPEED should be fired.....for tricking me into making another ishy thread.

I just tuned in... it's not the autocross you guys are imagining. It's very stock demo derby type cars racing rally-cross style around a dirt track with a few jumps.

meh

It's "Motocross" with cars.

Thanks for the giant fail, Mr Mcnoobsville.

hey, F you. Granted that wouldn't make a great TV event, but Lemons racing is probably the most fun you can have for less than a fortune.

Just sent this to SPEED channel via the "feedback" link on thier page.

There are many avid Autocrossers in this country, I guarantee all of us were dissapointed in what the SPEED channel considers Autocrossing. An autocross is a timed competition where drivers navigate one at a time through a temporary course marked by traffic cones, rather than racing on a track with multiple other cars, as in road racing or oval racing. And if that was not enough, the announcer has no idea what he is talking about. He actually referred to a Mazda Protege calling it "Honda CRX". There is no way to confuse those cars. I am very dissapointed in this program. If you want people to watch a television show about America's 'grassroots racing' get it right.

Now that really is uncommon. There aren't many autocrosses in Minnesota!

talk about a missleading advertisment

"AUTOCROSS!!!" looked more like the derby on a dirt track. I'm sure it was fun to compete in but boring as hell to watch.

I'm one of those MN auto-x'er. I run in Minnesota Autosports Club (http://www.mnautox.com/) for auto-x and Land O' Lakes Region SCCA (http://www.scca-lol.org/) for rally-x. Good fun

People come from quite a few surrounding states for those events as there's not many other groups around here. I'm kind of lucky that I get both an auto-x and a rally-x events hosted near me by those groups. Everyone volunteers and the organizers put in a lot of work to make it happen.

In Minnesota you can hit an autoX about every other week or so from May until October. Pretty good crowd too. Quite a few nationals level competitors run locally around here.

Just because something is fun doesn't make it a good televised event.
