Thanks for the info gravitylover. Your report is encouraging. Most of the time I need the maneuverability in dense traffic areas, but I also like to take long, multi-day road trips every now and then. The reinforced suspension of the VX should come in handy for the late winter potholes that we get in Feb-Mar.

OK, with all the tire talk I just have to throw in a plug for Finnish-made Nokian WRG2, the only all-seasons with the USDOT snowflake rating. I've loved these on all 3 cars I've put 'em on. They were particularly outstanding on my Outback 3.0R with relatively low profile. Never tried Contis so I can't directly compare, but I wanted something with the capability of a snow tire and the usability of an all-season. Perfect for places like here where there is typically little to no snow in daily driving throughout the winter, but where you can easily drive to snow all season long (and beyond) if you want. (Plus they're made with some silica and canola oil compound and are better for the environment when the tire wears over time and all the microscopic bits get flushed into the storm drains and then our waterways.)

Be careful when handling VX. It's pretty nasty stuff.

The Crosstrek has full frame windows, so it should seal the outside air better than my current Impreza wagon. Just in case all hell breaks loose in DC, I got an atropine kit, and old school road maps of various remote mountain gravel roads in West Virginia. The extra ground clearance of the Crosstrek should come in handy for jumping curbs in case I need to bypass long traffic jams on the way out of town. Attaching a pellet turret on the roof is an additional option if the terrorist attack includes zombie operatives.

But according to people on here, you won't have the power to climb those remote mountain gravel roads in West Virginia; so, I think you're just Zombie bait.

If you're personally insulted, you're probably doing it wrong.

If you simply don't understand it, you probably have a real life that you need to get back to.

If you just think it's stupid, you need to stop trying to grow up.

If you think everything needs AWD you should understeer off a cliff.

Good point. Need to check if the cub holders molded into the doors can hold spare cans of bear spray. If not, I could try modding it with the dual-range manual transmission that is available on the 1.6L gasoline engine version of the Crosstrek that is sold in Europe.

Decided to wait until Spring on the XV. Not in the cards at the moment. Honestly, they're too popular and sell to fast(around here anyway). Probably just let this settle down and pick one up when the new year drops.

Why not have the dealership order one for you?

Timing. I was there at Christmas and Perry had at least 3 on the lot including a TOP that we have yet to see our first one. Can't remember if RK had one, but I wouldn't go there after one of the sales persons thought that the SAP was an addendum on the car. I'm not familiar with Casey at all. Place a sold order. Less hassle.

I drove next to a dark gray one yesterday. Or maybe it was black, but just super dirty? Anyways, if I had to get rid of my BRZ, I'd switch to an XV. I just love all the extra stuff they have. I just really wish it had a bump in power (for my preference). Otherwise they're good as they are.

Which extra stuff? You mean the suspension, wheels...etc.?

Since you want more power, why not get a XT?

Yeah, that stuff, like chassis stiffening, suspension, and body cladding.

Since we're in the XV thread I thought I'd praise the XV and not mention the Forester. haha I'm sure if it came down to it I'd just get the Forester XT Touring. The XV meets its demographic while the Forester appeals to my inner ricer. I'd lower the XT and douse it with STI parts ASAP.

But the XV is somehow unique despite being a chopped up Impreza hatch. I love the idea of leaving it raised while making it sportier-looking with whatever parts get released. With the rear spoiler and mesh grille I think it looks absolutely fantastic! I even like the wheels, too.

I'm not exactly in the "I need to buy it" frame of mind. More of the "If it's there, and the price is right.." type thing. I figure if I wait and keep a casual eye out I'll find something. If I wait until the next year drops I could pick up a good deal on a returned lease or something.

I want an XV and I really want to get ride of our '10 Legacy, but there is no real sense of urgency.

I put a flag up to all the local dealers ala consumer reports so the offers have been rollin' in. Most of the dealers I got responses from I wouldn't do business with. With that said, Perry is the only dealer in the immediate are I'd buy from; and they had a ton in December! I made several trips to and from there picking up parts in an attempt to fix my fuel leak , which is what sparked my interest really. They do look good online, but they look awesome in person! If you're into that 'spunky' look.

Well got my car back from the body shop after the deer damage. For the most part it looks good. Guess it will never have the pertinent look and feel again, but over time I'm sure it will blend in fine. One question about the front lights. Just checking things out and not clear if my dayrunner lights are working. Does the car need to be in drive for them to be on? I have the lights set on auto, but when I step out to look, nothing's on. Everything else seems OK.

With my 2005 Impreza with manual transmission, the daytime running lights turn off if I apply the emergency brake. I would not be surprised if in a newer Subaru with automatic transmission the daytime running lights go off when placed in park.

If you want to check by yourself just aim your car at another vehicle in a parking lot, or at a vertical shiny surface such as a glass storefront.

Yes, they come on when put in gear. Since we try to avoid manuals as much as possible I forget when they come on with the newer cars, but back in 2005 they were on ALL the time(without the E-brake). My auto '05 Baja Turbo they are on as soon as I turn on the car. Very annoying.

You should be able to pull the ebrake up one click and they should go off, but also that one click shouldn't be enough to drag the ebrake either.

I do this when backing out of my spot at night or really early in the morning, since the DRL's will shine right into the bedroom window of lower level condos. I can't imagine living on the ground floor with an adjacent, perpendicular lot, since most a-holes turn their HID's on and sit there while their car warms up for a few minutes before taking off. It's enough that it wakes me up at times, and I'm a level up.

Yeah, but it's more annoying to have the brake light on in the dash. Lose lose for me....
