If anyone is the market for a mid 2000s Grand Cherokee 3.0 CRD, lemme know - off-hand all I recall is that it's black with a beige leather interior. A friend of mine will be selling his soon.

Back in March I talked about getting into offroading.
Quote:
I figured I will go the cherokee route. I will run with that, but if I really get into it, I will move to something better like a more capable wrangler. Started looking at XJ's, then 4runners, then back to XJ's, but now I'm settled on a WJ. A 1999-2004 Grand Cherokee with Quadradrive. I wasn't really open to the idea of an open diff offroad vehicle and electric lockers like the Eaton E-locker would be perfect, but they are expensive (significant cost of the vehicle in the price range I was looking at) and a trouble to install. Only one or two popped up with lockers installed, but they were priced way too high. Anyways, I'm getting wordy. The WJ offers me a few things. 1) They are cheap. I can get a stock low mileage one for 4000 easy. 2) Some come with Quadradrive which is limited slip front a rear and pretty highly respected. 3) I can replace my current Mercury Mountaineer with it, and still have all the convienences 4) I can get it with a V8 (unlike the XJ) for good power and towing capabilities and 5) its comfy. The aftermarket kinda sucks for the WJ's, but I'll lift it a little (3 inches), get new new tires, and leave it at that. If I end up really liking offroading, and need more, I'll spend more. The question I have now is if I want to buy a low mileage stock one, or spend 2 grand more for some with add-ons already. Two examples: Stock 2001, 129k. $3500 http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/5465163095.html Modded 1999. 165k. $6000 "2 1/2" lift. Bilstein Shocks, Atlas II transfer case, Heavy duty dive shafts. Heavy duty Aluminum radiator, Recovery hooks, Winch, Roof Rack" http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/5542189875.html The modded one has extra nice stuff like the Atlas TC, shocks, and radiator, but is it worth 2-3k more? I don't need the TC, stock is fine, and I can install a 3inch lift cheap. Other bits don't really add up. |

The modded one looks to be in a lot better condition. The roof rack looks pretty nice, the TC and other stuff seem nice(but unnecessary), didn't notice any mention of the rock sliders. The bull bar looks like ass, but that is easily remedied. I'd rather buy that one and save the cost on mods that they already took the hit for, since that stuff isn't cheap.

So much work done and it looks the same. 1"bl, UCF tummy tuck new RE adjustable control arms(all of them). New upper control arm bushings, solid motor mounts, tank skid, adams driveshaft, switched to rubicon express variable rate springs. most fluids. Probably a good amount more I don't remember. We'll see how this works out and maybe move up to 35's next winter with a re-gear. |

fixed the overheating issue, combo of to much advanced timing and to small of radiator. now i have a huge rad and 2 super loud electric fans lol
next up is a trans temp issue that is a combo of to high of gears and needing a better cooler, so cooler will get installed asap to see if that will work. as i would rather not regear it again. but sure does fit in at work |

Had a chance to do Wheelers for the Wounded, great way to give back to the Veterans who got hurt serving our country. The guy who rode with me had a great time and even laughed when we went deep enough into a stream to flood the inside of the jeep badly. Here is our group- Other than that, got a spiderwebshade, which is totally awesome and you must own one if you live somewhere warm. Chased a noise for a while, turned out to be body mounts (which were all loose as hell). Collecting parts for outboard/stretch. |

I have a 2013 JKU with 3.5" of lift and 35" tires. It feels like it is under braked since I added the bigger tires. I want to be able to pull a small camping or utility trailer. I have been looking at big brake kits like Teraflex or the Mopar one that comes with a new master cylinder and brake booster. A bunch of local guys tell me to save my money and buy a set of Black Magic pads. Do any of you experience with big brake kits or the more aggressive brake pads? What would you recommend?

I got back from MOAB last Monday and am supposed to leave again today, but I've got a rotational squawk in the front end that appears to be a wheel bearing or a glazed pad. Only happens when super-hot. . I haven't replaced the wheel bearing and now i'm worried it's going to fail, so I'm just going to go to moab to fart around in the tacoma and take it easy. Probably do all new front ujoints wheel bearings and ball joints as that was on my list before heading to the rubicon trail next year. Got a new front driveshaft (adams) as well, this thing rides so smoothly now with the variable springs and new driveshafts. |

The black magic pads are very good. I would not go the BBK unless you have tried that first and didn't think it was adequate. Have you bled the system?
Even then I would research a lot before I committed to a BBK. For $800 you are quite a ways towards finding a used axle that already has better brakes on it. |

Yeah, Yours is ultra-high, mine's regular. I would have rather gone with that, but I messed up. Either way, I'm still happy. I'm going to add the front oil pan skid next.
I'm pretty happy with the setup now, bummed about the rotational noise. I have the parts, but I don't want to run the risk of having problems in MOAB and relying on my friends to fix them as I have a damaged hand right now. Last week: |

You did the off-road loop at Capitol Reef National Monument? How was the stream crossing? When I went years ago it was about a foot and brisk flow. Probably shouldn't have done it in my open diff, street tired Pathfinder, but I did and didn't die.

I lowered the front of the jeep the other day, I originally had 3/4" spacers because the front was slanted down like a race car, but with added armor and the tire carrier it was now the opposite.
Front springs off and spacers pulled, whole job done solo in 1 hour, not bad |
