Default Damaged a Wheel Bearing

So I hit a curb because I trusted the "All Season" label on the yokohama stock tires. First 2 inches of snow . . . . understeered into a curb doing about 10mph. Nothing i could've done differently.

Anyway, the Subaru Dealership says the wheel bearings are backordered, and the private shop I'm using instead, (because the dealership doesn't seem to care that I can't wait 2+ weeks without a car), is having trouble finding an aftermarket wheel bearing.

SO I'm in trouble. There aren't any loaners available at the dealership, because they don't give a **** about their customers. And I can't afford to rent a car for the next two weeks. Does anybody have an idea where to get a 2014 Subaru Impreza Sport Wheel bearing? Thanks

Check the usual parts houses, Advance Auto, Pep Boys, Napa, etc. If they don't have the part, they can call around and get it same day or next morning.

If you don't mind involving your insurance company (possible rate increases and Carfax entries) you may have rental coverage available.

How's the wheel and control arm? You'll probably need an alignment.

I don't mean to beat up on you here, but I hope the all-season crew is paying attention. Just one incident and any money saved with all-seasons is gone, and that's often the least of it.

aww that's cute

When you say there's nothing you could have done differently... Could you not have steered straight into the curb so it's mostly the tire taking the impact? or did you do that?

maybe but wouldnt it have banged up the front of the car. Our cars dont sit very high and a high curb will do some damage

You could check out Subaru Parts Warehouse, they have 25% off and usually ship pretty fast. They are in CT so it shouldn't be too long to get to NY.

And sheesh at people criticizing how you drive/what you did.

Just a few weeks ago, you were telling us how great your all seasons were in the snow.

Monday morning quarterbacking isn't helping anyone. He was probably steering to avoid the curb rather than to hit it in the nicest way possible.

The Yokohamas are really 0-season. Sorry man.

Dedicated winter tires are great for people who have space to store an extra set of tires, but honestly any other legitimate all-season is a million times better than what comes stock with this car.

Yes. Thank you.

Anyone that thinks that you would be able, in the final 1-2 seconds before impact, to think "Hmm. I'm definitely going to hit. I'm going to point my wheel directly at the curb to avoid damaging the hub assembly/wheel bearing" is a total tard. I'm happy for you that you think you have superpowers. Like in GTA5 when you can click both sticks while playing as Franklin and enter slo-mo mode. GFY.

Plus, let's say I did have enough time to think about it. I'd still have no idea how much a hub assembly costs versus a new wheel and tire. A used sport wheel is about $180 shipped. Plus tire and mount: $325 total. How is that better than breaking the hub assembly? "Because the hub is backordered. Derp". Which I wouldn't have any way of knowing before the crash. Idiots

Default Damaged a Wheel Bearing

Here's the latest:

The Timken hub assembly doesn't fit. In 2014, subaru changed the hub. But the 2014s made in 2013 have the 2012-2013 hubs. The January 2014 and forward imprezas have the new 2014-2015 hubs. So the aftermarket ones won't fit. They don't exist yet for 2015s. Oye

So, turns out Van Bortel lied to me. They said the part was "on nation-wide backorder". No. They only called dealerships and depots within 1000 miles. Then they gave up. Knowing full well that I'm in a bind because they don't have any loaners. So it wasn't until I found this out, lit a fire under their feet, that they called further out than 1000 miles. Well What do ya know?!?! They found one! But they're charging WAY more for it than the old 2012-2013 hub costs. So I might be getting ripped off now if they tacked another $40 into the price because they know I'm desperate and I'll pay. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

They were supposed to order it yesterday. Hopefully they did and it'll be here by middle of next week.

Rockauto has 3 options for 2014 model

Correct part coming UPS ground from Texas. ETA 12/3/14.

Glad this fiasco is almost over. I know it's not as bad as jrobb and his oil burner, not even close. So it could be worse. Still, worst experience I've ever had with a dealership. I've done business with 5 in my life. Van Bortel wins for crappiest laziest attitude.

Repaired. Like new.

$180 for the hub and shipping. $220 for the labor and an alignment.

The price of these hubs should get down to around $110 as they catch up on the backorder.

Things I've learned: this car is solidly built. There really should've been more damage. And, get winter tires.

Yup. I should also have an 80" TV, an indoor pool, and a vintage 60's Strat.

My wife and I are moving in June. Once we get settled in, we're going to buy a cheap used pickup. RWD. Just for picking up landscaping/gardening/large appliances. That'll be my back up vehicle.
