ok so if its only about traction, is it more fun then dry pavement driving? I cant wait to find out on my own btw. super jealous of you guys.

Going backwards in the system, it's the pipe right before the input into the exhaust it's self. Trying to come up with the right name, but failing here. So out of the exhaust, there is a small elbow and then a spot where it joins up to the next pipe. That one is completely brown and rusty looking. I need to go in for my second oil change soon, so I'll probably have the dealer look at it then.

Much more. That said, the TCS is annoying, and basically prevents you from having as much fun as you would have been able to. Even with it clicked "off", it is still there, just weaker. Not to mention, there has been more than one corner where it left me just drifting to the outside instead of allowing me to point the noise and send power to the wheels. I used to be able to drift my Rav4 (gen 1) for about a half a block to a block in the right conditions, but newer cars with their ESC and TCS won't let you do that...

Got out this morning in the second snow this year but the first with my new DWSs on. Major improvement over the stock Yokos. I lost 3 MPG on the highway but gained much more wet and snow/ice traction.
I had the DWSs on my A6 also and they do even better on the Impreza. The weight of the A6 was noticeable in the snow when cornering causing some slides when pushed a bit. The Impreza drives like it is on rails. As soon as you make it slide the stability system goes nuts.

Just got home! Fun in the snow for me is; passing people that are doing 20-30mph in cars and SUV's equipped with all-season tires. This is why I always have on winter tires this time of year! ....and I was going around 50mph as I passed them. Yes, I like the look on their faces as I go by them! Subies Rule!

Always had loads of fun like this in my old Corolla (handbrake to initiate slide). Trying to still figure out how to get sideways in the snow with AWD. Well the actual getting sideways is easy enough, if you just turn sharply (though still not as easy as using handbrake in a FWD). But as far as the power-out to return aspect, not sure if pointing the front wheels and hitting the gas will return the car from a sideways slide since the rear wheels are working against you in that case. Anyway so much more control with AWD and snow tires (usually just point where you want to go and push the gas), but the snow drifting aspect still needs to be ironed out coming from being used to FWD techniques.

Yeah. I have blizzak snows and they are amazing! Nothing but traction everywhere! I even bring a tow rope with me in the snow cuz people tend to get stuck and u can make a lot of $ towing them out lol.

Hmmm, I wonder if our trannies/differentials/etc. can handle that kind of work?

I have no intention of finding out myself. I'll just smile as I drive away easily as they watch.

I've got the tow rope from my last vehicle, but now with the Impreza, without a hitch on the back, I don't think there is an easy place to attach it on my car. Not gonna put the tow hook in place unless it's to get *me* towed.

on the front right and rear left there is a tiny little square in the bumper you can pry out and in the back with your spare is an eye bolt that screws into the hole and works perfect for towropes, not sure i would try a chain but to each his own. this is expressly for towing either yourself or hooking up to someone else.

if you look in the back first, there is actually a flat blade screwdriver to accomplish this.

Tomwi said he doesn't want to use the tow hook unless he's the one getting towed.

My impreza is equipped with X-Ice 2 on very cheap 17inch alloy wheel.

It's a bit scary on very icy road to get rear ended, because it is too easy to drive & you see everyone else sliding like no tomorrow. The EBD along with the ABS system work like a charm.

On the snow it provide decent traction but not to the point of saying they are awesome. you clearly see a huge difference in acceleration compare to FWD cars.

I also changed my wiper with Rain X which perform a tad bit better than the OEM one. The OEM one doesn't seem do add enough pressure to wipe the glass properly. The Wiper De-Icer is mostly useful on snowy day. On very low temperature the wiper work even before the windshield is completely de-iced to a point you can crap out the rubber of your wiper if you don't pay attention of the ice over it.

I'm running X-Ice 2 as well, but on 15s. Excellent tire and quieter than stock. I really had to try hard to lose traction in fresh snow. Acceleration in 2nd was no slower than on dry pavement.

A RWD Pathfinder did a 270 in front of me on a very gentle slope. He drove 20 MPH the rest of the way home, ruining my fun.

This is what the old stock 16" WRX wheels look like that I bought with used Blizzak WS60 snow tires already installed. Previous owner painted them black.

I headed out after work last night to deliver some presents to my son, his wife, and child. On the way home, the roads got real bad. I dare say I believe the new car does better than my '03 rex did. No doubt the VDC is working well. The going was effortless. Cars in the ditch, people creeping along, me smiling all the way. Strictly for the ability to get around, I'm loving this! It won't be as easy to have a little fun though. One of these days, I too would like to get a set of wheels and some winter tires. For now, the Yoks will have to do.

Nice. That should be a tank in the snow!

Thanks! I'm taking her to the Adirondack mountains tomorrow, and will probably find out then just how tank-like she is!

Currently in central ny. Sgoldste looks like we have a nice storm tomorrow I have been in the mountains all week it's snowed everyday. Disable vdc when you are climbing in mountains that way traction control doesn't annoy you. I will be taking back roads to oneonta then head back to nj from there hmm they say might get more than a foot it's about time we had some nice winter weather.

What is the deepest the impreza can handle? Currently in little rock, Arkansas and there is about 5 inches and the impreza can handle very well with the DWS on. I am very impress about the tank like characteristic but It is definitely different than the rwd bias the c240 4matic Mercedes. The c240 was joy to drive in the snow. Easy to drift but the impreza is not. oh well. I feel confident in the impreza just like the c240. Hopefully the impreza can handle 8 or 9 inches of snow

I would be skeptical that any car can handle a depth of snow that's higher than its ground clearance. Maybe if it's light, fluffy snow. But I wouldn't expect our Imprezas (or even the XV) to handle 9" of heavy snow.

I'd be happy if it could do that, but I wouldn't be surprised if it can't.
