This afternoon on a 1 076 km2 frozen lake.

That's an infinite playground... Fawking VDC. I hate that shït so much. I think I will sell the car before next winter just because of that

By the way, here in Quebec-Canada, winter Tire are required from December 15 to March 15. I bought a set of Nokian Hakkapellitta 7 205-55-16 for about $1000 canadian. I know it's expensive but it is an incredible tire... I drive a lot on country roads in northern Canada, where conditions are extreme and where the temperature is very cold (up to -40) ... I can easily drive 120-130 km/h in any snowstorm.

Sorry for my bad english

Problem with the car though; the ground clearance is simply too low! The underside of the car scraped on almost all snow I drove over, and for some reason the area under the drivers side is rattling...

Any ideas, people? I can't take a look because I don't have a lift or even rhino ramps, but the rattling is definitely not on the interior of the car, as it started today while driving.

Aside from that rattling which has me pretty worried, and the ground clearance, I love the car with these DWS and my shiny new wheels.
My car started doing the same thing on Sat morning after driving home in the snow Friday night. Best I can describe is a rattling under the Passanger footwell, and muffler rattling under slow accel.... I am hoping it is just ice rattling around. I looked underneath and dont see any visual damage. Did see ice though

Was really bad this morning again.. but as day went on, rattling kinda went away.. thinking it is ice. Have ice everywhere... the space between the tires and the body is tight and slush and ice gets stuck up in there too. I bet your noise will go away on Monday after you drive in the rain.

Man too bad I live in Socal where it doesn't get to snow that much. I'd love to put a suby on some fresh laid snow just to see how the bad boy handles.

I guess it's ice, well, hopefully at least.

Hopefully the freezing rain isn't gonna make driving our cars worse today

Say, we should have a meet up sometime!

Anyway, i'll update on whether the rattles go away or not on this thread.

Good luck with this snow we have :P

I had the Nokian Hakkapellitta on my mini great tires in snow, on slick roads gotta be careful but they get the job done plus they take longer to burn off their winter compound. I have since cheapened out to the altimax arctics, sweet for cheap and gets the job done, no regrets.

Yeah, I had Altimax Arctics on my VW TDI, and was impressed with them. When my current Blizzak WS60 snow tires wear out, I'll probably replace them with Altimax Arctics.

I test drove my first WRX/ STI yesterday In pennsylvania and had the opportunity to drive it through some snow. Ive been looking to get a wrx or sti now for quite some time and it is just amazing how well it handles. Cannot wait to order one.

Keep in mind your new WRX/STI ships with summer tires, so plan on getting better tires for the winter.

Car made it through 10-12" of snow today on stock tires, was only a few blocks worth but still not exactly a good feeling. Next winter will be on snow tires

My Crosstrek pulled through 10-12" of unplowed, wind beaten snow like a champ! I even stopped on a hill, got out to check that it truly was riding on the snow underneath, then got back in and started back up the hill with no problems at all. I know I only have a touch under 9" of clearance but driving through snow deeper than that was easy.

What tires do you recomend getting for the winter? I was planning on getting another set of rims. Either the stockers again with winter or all season tires. Because idont want to ruin nice wheels for summer

Don't get all seasons as a second set of tires, they will never be as good as dedicated winter tires. I have Nitto SN2s and am happy with them, but there are plenty of other excellent options that I'm sure people will share with you.

Bridgestone Blizzaks and General Altimax Arctics (without adding studs) are both excellent choices. And to save money and improve traction, many people go with 16" wheels for the winter tires, rather than matching the 17" size of your summer wheels.

Some have gone with 15" wheels/snow tires. According to TireRack, the appropriate 15" tire is 195/65-15.

I went with old 16" WRX wheels that I found for cheap on Craigslist. They came with young Blizzak WS-60 snow tires already installed (only 5k miles on them), and they work very well. But I like the Bridgestone Altimax Arctics too (that's what I had on my VW TDI), so that's what I'll buy when the Blizzaks wear out.

All I can say is that it's the 15" tire size that TireRack recommends for our Imprezas. TireRack hasn't led me astray yet....

And for 16" wheels, the recommended size is 195/60-16. This is the snow tire size I have on the used WRX wheels I bought.
