Default 2011 Sedan Rear Fog Light

**If the mods are reading this, I would ask that you combine the other threads into this one**

Okay, lets get to it. Several people have been looking into information regarding the rear fog light available for the 2011 WRX/STI Sedan in Japan & UK trim levels. I was able to have a friend locate it in Japan. So to answer the question for the guys/gals interested in adding it to their USDM WRX/STI, below is the entire assembly along with the part numbers shown on the packages. This way you have the information to source it yourself. With this being one of the first (if not the) sets in the US, I wanted to share the information.

**CLARIFICATION**
This does NOT mean that the assembly is a direct fit. I am still awaiting my STI to arrive to figure out installation.

On to the Pics!

Entire Assembly of Parts

Misc Clips

Threaded Clips to hold side

Rear Fog Harness

Rear Fog Lightbulb

Rear Fog

(1) Red Lens P/N 84913FG420
(1) Harness P/N 84981FG050
(1) Lightbulb P/N 84920KE010
(4) Plastic Clips P/N 909205126
(6) Bolts P/N 901000344
(2) Threaded Clips P/N 902510032

Hope this information is useful. I will be back on this thread to update with install pics. I would ask that anyone who can add useful info to this thread to please do so. Good luck guys!

-Scott

Really? I post up to help out and this is what I get? First response with bad information? You don't know what you are talking about. This rear fog is for the 2011 Sedan model GVB. I guess I can delete this thread.

yup, go ahead and delete it.

maybe next time you should be more descriptive in your title, because not every 2011 wrx/sti fog light will be the same.

i have edited my post.

If the Mods could add sedan to the title it will clear things up. Thanks for the UK Sedan picture. That will better illustrate the location.

You can change the title. Just hit "go advanced" when you are editing the thread.

The only thing I can say is WOW!!

You did exactly what I would have done and that is to source everything. No cutting or splicing or hack-job.

One suggestion: get yourself a red LED bulb: http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED/B...10367-1-2.html

Trust me, get one. I have experience with OEM and aftermarket rear LED lamps that are relatively small like the OEM one you have and an incandescent bulb will get hot and tend to melt the housing. An LED bulb produces almost no appreciable heat and so you can expect to avoid the possibility for any melting to occur.

something i am very curious about though, did you find a source for a new turn signal stalk that includes the rear fog control? The oem switch is just an additional "turn" on the stalk.

I'm in the middle of setting up a rear fog for my hatch and I was considering sourcing one out in lieu of installing a non-oem switch.

I hit my friend up about sourcing this out for me too from a Subaru dealer. I am running out of favors though lol. So are you saying that on the stalk you have (2) different switches for the front and back fog? I would have guessed that when you turn the fronts on, the back comes on too. The thing that scares me the most is not having a clip in the back for the light, causing me to have to wire all the way to the front harness to the wires that activate the front fog lights. Until I get my STI in, I really dont know.

It's all combined into one switch on the stalk. One turn up switches on the front, a second turn up switches on the rear.

The rear fog is only supposed to be used with heavy fog/rain as the light is very bright and not very safe to use otherwise. The rear fog helps other drivers see your car when visibility is very low.

exactly. two settings on the stalk, since you shouldn't use the rear fog often, and when you do, you'll want the front fog as well.

if you can find a source for one of the stalks and want to buy a few, I'd likely buy one, depending on the price.

a rear fog should be as bright as your brake lights. leaving it on in clear conditions confuses and annoys drivers.

I use it frequently in the winter in Seattle since it rains almost all the time and visibility on the highways is horrible.

Thats exactly why I want this, besides the cool factor. We have snow in the winter, torrential rainfall in the spring and really bad fog in the fall so I would like to have something in the back that will be easier to spot. I usually just tap my brakes sooner so people wont follow too close. I will see about sourcing the stalk out. If the hatch here has rear fogs, couldnt you just get a stalk from your local dealer?

On F1 cars, the driver can turn it on via a switch or button (likely on the steering wheel) in the cockpit. There are no brake lights on an F1 car. The rear light also flashes when the rev limiter is enabled (also via button or switch) when entering and exiting the pits.

14.5 Rear light:
All cars must have a red light in working order throughout the Event which:
- has been supplied by an FIA designated manufacturer;
- faces rearwards at 90° to the car centre line and the reference plane;
- is clearly visible from the rear;
- is mounted nominally on the car centre line;
- is mounted 300mm (+/-5mm) above the reference plane;
- is no less than 595mm behind the rear wheel centre line measured parallel to the reference plane;
- can be switched on by the driver when seated normally in the car.
The two measurements above will be taken to the centre of the rear face of the light unit.

What do you have against it?

Properly used rear-fog lights are very helpful in the case of imclimate weather.

Now the jokers that leave them on 24/7, that's another story.

Funny. We here in Europe, specially Switzerland, are doing everything for clean the car from this rear fog lights.

You don't have the rear fog lights on the hatch and sedan but you want them...

We want what we don't have and you don't want what you have.

We want the JDM foglamps for the USDM 2004-2005 models and and others outside of the US want the same YMM USDM lamps for their JDM/AUDM/EDM cars.

Go figure?

"IF" properly used during foggy, snowy, or heavy rain/downpour conditions, then they are most certainly worth having.

Most people in the U.S. don't understand the need, let alone the proper use of a rear fog-lamp because it is not a required item in the States. But if you do look at some States' motor vehicle laws, they actually allow for the use of rear fog lamps and if properly installed (e.g. at least 4 inches / 10cm from a brake lamp).
