Question JDM V7 wrx wheel installed into 2001 RS airbag question

Okay, well i installed the wheel over the weekend regardless but i've had a few problems on the way that would like to clear up and sort out.

The first one was that on both of the airbag set ups, the RS wheel and the wrx wheel had these sort of harness inbetween the charge and the plastic cover with the clip

(this is the wrx one)

So i swapped the charges from the RS into the WRX wheel and that was all ok. The problem arises when i try to put that harness from above back on the the wrx unit after the RS charge has been placed in it. The circle in the middle is just a few mm too small to fit it in.

Here's what it looks like

And here's one of the unit without the metal thing just for reference

Well i read from someone over on rs25.com that their newer wrx USDM wheel didnt even have one of these metal things in there so that made me worry slightly less about not including it. My plan is to try and get someone to cut it a bit and increase the diameter but that sounds a lot easier than it is unless you can suggest any metal workers in the atlanta area (chain stores or anything). Does this unit play a vital role?

By the way the RS one will not fit due to different size units and shape.

The steering wheel is about 10 degrees off to the right also but that can be fixed with the toe rod adjustment or so i have read.

This weekend i'll probably be taking the unit back off to make sure i tightened the steering wheel properly as i don't actually have a proper torque wrench, just a little one with a 3/4in drive which i used with all my strength to tighten the bolt but better to be safe than sorry eh? Also gotta hook up the horn wires from the cruise control because i can't honk atm.

Right, thanks for any help or information

Jack
