Fender Liners totally trashed... =( how bad is it to run like this in MD?
I got my fenders rolled a while back. They screwed the front fender liners up to the top of the wheel well and they ended up cracking and breaking. How bad is this to run? I'll be putting 200 miles a week on the car until I get my house tax money, then i'm buying a cheap Honda to pound the miles on.
I don't know how long they've been like this but should I put up for the $150 ASAP for a new set of liners? Ugh fking pita. Edit: For the record, bought a new set with subybucks and installed. Anyone got a cheap set of used ones? suck photos i know, i'm in the process of moving and my cam is packed, and my iphone cam is crap

i dont think you'll hurt anything as long as you stay out of gravel and mud. take a peek under there and put some conduit or electrical tape around any exposed wires you see, that should be sufficient protection from rainy days until you replace the liners.

Isn't there a wiring harness on the passenger's side that is protected by the fender liner???

Unless prices have gone up a lot in the last year, the fender liners are nowhere near that much. I think I paid <$50 for the liner + all new hardware from Fitzmall. Annapolis had similar prices.

I just did a quick google search and saw roughly $70 a liner.
The speaker wire is for the side markers. I dont run on any gravel, but i'm stuck driving in the rain. I cant wait to get my DD so the STI can live in the garage most of the time. car pic, for the hellva it Last edited by Psybin; 08-09-2009 at 08:56 PM. |

Yikes who did the roll job? I think when I bought a new fender liner from Annapolis it was only like 40-50 bucks, maybe the price went up. You can always snag "suby bucks" from someone on here and use them (if Annapolis still lets that happen) and save a couple bucks.

We performed the roll on this car. The fender liners where modified the same way as every other one we have done. The truth is that there is nothing that can be done about this. The factory material is very brittle and does not last. When installing aggressive fitments and lowering the car significantly, a front roll is necessary. Once you roll the front fenders, the liners don't have a lip or upper clips to keep them in place. The only options are to either remove the liners all together, or to slice them in the middle and secure them to the sheet metal that is above them. The latter is the lesser of the evils for sure. If you have comments or suggestions on how this could be done better or differently, I welcome you to enlighten us.

I don't think it would be that much of a concern as long as you get it fixed before salt season starts.

another concern is making sure they can't pop out and get under your tire while driving...could make for an ugly incident.

I wasn't trying to badmouth anyone, I was just looking for insight on what the heck I'm going to do about this. I can't just run without, unless I want to park it for the winter or dig snow out of it =(

We did not take it that way at all. My post was simply addressing the " Yikes" in the above post. In our email to you, it explains an idea that we have to protect the wiring. Please review and let us know if that helps. Regards, JJ |

Don't run without the fender liners. You will get a lot of water in the electrical harnesses, wiring and door hinges. They will not do well with time. Happened on a beater crx I have a little bit so I replaced everything.

Also the coatings on the inner surface of the fender will get compromised by the debris and you might start corrosion throughout the fender itself.

The tires ended up not rubbing nearly as much as I thought they would. If I cut the liners, they'll be pretty much fine. I knew the aggressive rolling and pulling would make it so that the liners wouldn't clip back in, and I'm okay with that. I might eventually cut up a set of liners just so it looks "prettier," but right now, I'm not too concerned. |

Was thinking about getting fenders rolled here shortly, how large of a tire can you get on 18's without this happening.

I just have my liners semi-attached right now (a handful of the stock clip points). For the record, my race tires are 295/30R18s. |

I guess I'll chime in.
I just, today in fact, picked up my car from IAG. JJ did a phenomenal job as usual. But anyways... My setup is on the aggressive side. 18x9 +29 running 235/40 (yeah, not too meaty) but at 2.6 degrees of camber my fronts are UNTOUCHED and I do not rub. I'm relatively low too. I would be lower but the darned CV boots are a pain... I think I could run a 255/35 and be ok too. A minor role maybe, but nothing serious. Their fender liner tuck trick is solid though. I've seen it first hand and it looks safe. OP, I would think on yellows up front you would be ok without a role? Did it rub at first and then decided to get them rolled? |
