Default '12 or '13 Impreza/Crosstrek Leather Wheel Swap

Hey. First post for me. I did my due diligence, and didn't find anything on this topic, but if I missed it just point the way.

I've got a brand spankin' new XV Crosstrek Premium 5MT. I've got a leather shifter, but I am really interested in swapping out the vinyl wheel for a leather one. I figure that it must be possible to obtain one from somewhere, along with that little silver bezel for the bottom spoke that the vinyl wheel lacks.

Anyone done it, or seen a write up anywhere? If you've got a parts source to recommend I'd be interested in that too.

Thanks much.

Here's my solution to your problem. It's not as elegant as what you're asking about, but it works well, and is a lot cheaper:

Yeah, considered it, but ruled it out. I don't like the 'big fat wheel' feel, personally.

There has got to be an OEM wheel I can get my hands on. And someone must have done this swap by now.

Yes, I know of at least one forum member who purchased an OEM leather wheel from the dealer, and then paid to have the dealer install it for him. I believe the total price, installed, was approximately $400 to $500, but I'm not certain.

I sure did. Not only does it look cheap for a car with the word "Premium" in its model name, but I found the groove that is molded into the wheel to be extremely uncomfortable on longer trips. Tolerable on a 20-minute commute to work, but really bad on a multi-hour road trip.

The only change to the 2013 Sport Premium that made me a bit envious was the leather wheel and shift knob. But I bought an OEM leather shift knob for $12 on eBay, and the Wheelskins was $40, so now I'm happy and comfortable.

I replaced my steering wheel for the leather one. It came out to about $410.00 installed. I can't find the part numbers now.

The leather steering wheel was $325.00. The little plastic piece for $13.00. I went on my local dealers eStore and bought the items. I would check around for the best price. I was lucky my dealer was the cheapest I found.

My dealer wants something extra obnoxious, like $425, just for parts.

How does that lower silver plastic piece attach to the steering wheel?

Can that piece be attached to the regular sport steering wheel? Or does it only attach to the leather wheel?

That silver piece fills a gap on the leather wheel that the plastic molded wheel does not have.

That's what I figured. Oh well for that.
