Question how much hp can the stock bottom end handle

my goal is to hit mid 12's and then add nitrous. my mods so far are:

VF30
SBC-Id
up pipe
down pipe
cut out
CAI
NGK plugs
pully kit

I dont have far to go...before I had the pullies installed, I ran a 13.1 in Houston summer heat, full interior, half a tank, and a small system in the trunk. trapped at 102.5 so Im hoping that with winter around the corner, ill hit a 12.9
*crossing fingers* next mods on the list:

FMIC
Injectors
Fuel pump
fuel rail
fly wheel
clutch
better tires
bigger downpipe
unichip

im hoping that once I get all this done ill be in the mid 12's with no probs...THEN goes the nitrous...and this is why I made this post. Ive talked to some of my buddies...and they stress to me that make sure the bottom end can handle it. now I dont know a whole lot about mixing the N20 with turbos...im aiming to do a fuel mix..i think thats what it is..wet shot....im aiming at doing probably a 50-75 shot..any info would be appreciated

From everything I've read around here, anything over 400 hp puts you right at the ragged edge. Any detonation could cause a failure. If your're going to make that kind of power, make sure you do it on race gas, and have good tune.

Your tranny will last for a little while.

Nice times on your current setup. I'm aiming for something similar by the end of the year.

Torque numbers are another thing to worry about its not just hp numbers. 400ish flbs can do it too, especially in the long run, even without detonation those kinds of numbers are going to be hard to sustain.

When someone actually decides to push several of these motors on a dyno until they let go, this is pure speculation. There is no legitimate basis for anyone to guess that 400hp is the limit, so I would take any comments on this question with the proverbial "grain of salt".

Um 400 definatly is not the limit at the crank. At the wheels maybe.

People overseas have, and they found what I just said.

Maybe not on the dyno though.

Your engine might last for a good number of drag runs at that kind of power, but strap on a big (huge) turbo and hit the track, or take high speed runs, and we'll see what happens.

Your set up would prob be about 350 at the wheels with a 50 shot and would be fine if you had it tuned well

IMHO - a fuel rail mod is very much needed if you want to run big boost on the highway to prevent lean cylenders

I'd have to look back at jorge's meltdown, but most of the failures ive seen and read about have been pistons in the 350whp range. With forged pistons who knows...might take many hard miles before the bottom end pukes. You cant be sure...just because the weakest link is breaking first, it doesnt tell you when/whats going to break next.
