OK everyone I have been a member of this community for a very long time and have never asked for anything. But I am asking for some help now for my son,
Short story is he needs some tires for his car he has 205/40/17's he bought used a few months ago and one has a belt separating and it looks like the other 3 are on the way out too. So does anyone have any 17's laying around?
Long story
For those of you that don't know he did a 4 year + 4 months stint in the army as a combat engineer, 19 months of that in Iraq, they extended him in Iraq 4 months past his ETS date because there weren't any replacements available. He has worked various jobs since getting out but with the times like they are he seems to be in a steady loop of lay offs like me. This last time he was laid off from the night shift on Thursday, filed for unemployment on Friday then was called back to work on Monday for the day shift, what they failed to tell him was it was just to fill in for someone gone on vacation. Not knowing this he went on his unemployment page and cancelled his claim. For whatever reason that has threw a monkey wrench in the system, when he was laid off again a week and a half later the website said he had an open claim already and to just pick back up claiming his weeks, after a month and no check he called and waited on hold for over 2 hours and they told him he should have filed a new claim. So he does and they then accuse him of trying to scam the system and file on two claims! This has been going on since the last week of July and he still has not received a check! He wasn't too worried about it as he was in the process of swapping from the reserves to the Air force only to find at the last minute the "slight" hearing loss the army said he had was in fact 45%. While I am sure all this will get resolved he is out donating plasma for gas money and can in no fashion afford a set of tires and we just spent every last dime we had replacing water damaged sub floor in our bathroom and bedroom.
TTT....'cmon...lets help out guys

Greg, there is a set of stockers from Mae's '08 sitting at CJ's house. They are on the stock rims though, so they would have to be separated. RE-92a 205/50/17. You are welcome to them if something better doesn't come up.

Thanks Chuck, CJ had contacted me also, I will give you a yell if we need them we are checking to see if a set of the mini rims will fit his car, I found 2 bent rims while checking out his other tires and either the tires are bad or the rims were bent when they installed them looking at the amount of weights they used to balance them, inside lip, outside lip, and stick-ons all an the same 2 rims

I too know how it goes, I cant help with money but I could help with time and elbow grease if needed.

Uncle I worked worm for quite a while in North Dakota 6 or so years ago, Had a great crew that never moved so being last hired I didnt get to move up. Though being that it was a great crew I worked most spots just to get experience we worked 7 on, 7 off and got about 2k a week. If it wasnt for my autistic son I might still be there.

Thanks, I think we have the urgent stuff done minus tires, the Mini rims will fit there not pretty to look at as they were used for race rims and were subjected to several tire changes on the hand tire changer but they are straight and wont need a pound of lead to balance.

Houston....I have a problem...SO..I was aware of a few CA laws, but apparently I'm unable to get new DOD stickers on base unless I have a SMOG test done. Why is this a problem? Well, I don't have none of my stock parts available...I'm unable to sell it legally without a smog test...

Seems like my only option is to drive back to FL and have it sold there. Any ideas??? I'm desperate to sell the car because costs are high to remodify my car here in CA.

You right but most of the states close by have Smog test requirements...Oregon, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Nevada...

I might need to purchase all stock parts required for smog test requirements and replace them. Sell aftermarket items as well...

You'll make more money that way of you stock it and part it out. It'll be a bit more work though. Yea Cali has the strictest emission laws of anywhere. You shouldn't have a tough time finding a shop with left over stock parts though.

What base in Cali won't let you get base stickers? Is that registering your car in cali? I am about to be stationed in San Diego and I was going to keep the car registered in Florida. I am also far away from stock to think about going back to stock.

Naval bases will not allow you to get new or updated decals without having a smog test done. My car is still registered in florida along with my drivers license but it is a DOD requirement for naval bases here in Cali. I'm assume it is the same in most states with smog test requirements.

I'm going to school full time so I did not have the chance to meet with the locals and see what else can be done. Read the SCIC board and you will see a dedicated smog test thread.

I am going to say that DOD thing is for Cali only because of their leading edge (tree-hugging) standards. I have had no issue with getting sticker renewals anywhere else.
