V7 STI expected power
Im getting my standard ecu tuned with ECUTek in 1 month hopefully and im just really curious of what HP im going to be making after. Any of you pros have any idea of the HP ill be around?
i have a 01 sti with vf30 turbo 38mm external wastegate plumbed back 500hp fuel pump standard 565cc injectors 3" TBE

Dyno numbers are, for the most part relative to a lot of factors. Dynos vary and some dynos use "correction factors". Some people talk BHP, some WHP, etc... In general numbers for a given engine and turbo will depend more on the shop setup and dyno than anything else.
565 injectors max around 280-300 wheel HP on what most consider to be a "realistic" dyno. vf30 should be right around that same range. Dynojets or more optimistic dynos have been known to put this same limit (which is a pure physics limit with the injectors only able to put out that much fuel) in the 350 WHP range. That's just dyno variation. So nobody can give a very accurate guess as to what number you'll have unless they're familiar with the dyno and what it tends to read for a given configuration. The "language" most popular here is airboy road dyno, since it only needs a flat road and the ability to log time and RPM. This tends to match reasonably well with a Mustang dyno and on that kind of dyno you should end up in the 270-300 WHP range. EWG will plus the nice V7 heads will help to keep that power through a wide RPM range, but your power is going to be limited by the turbo and injectors. Race gas will net ~ 10-20% more than pump gas, depending on how bad or good the pump gas is in your area. |

Thanks for that. im hoping for around 230 whp so i could be in luck by the sounds of that haha. we have 98 octane fuel here. probably works out to be something lower elsewhere but it does the trick. im sticking with the vf30 for now and im wanting boost anywhere between 18-20 psi. its going to be a great day when i get the power increase
It done a 13.02 1/4 mile with just the exhaust so it should be interesting to see what time i get after the tune... Last edited by 93 type RA; 07-17-2010 at 08:19 PM. |

e-mail tunes from either clark or ed from equilibrium tuning, they spend a lot of time making maps back & forth for you w you loggin each one & sending it back & forth til its perfect, matching to your driving style even I guess

What does your car weigh? That's a good time I'd say for a V7 with just exhaust and no tune. What did it trap at?
Clark did an e-tune for my V7 and the difference was night and day...it feels MUCH better. |

you will need tactrix cable & download openecu (ecuflash) to reprogram
your ecu with these e-tune maps. unless the "e-tune" has the same parts that you car has it will be close but not tailored to your car. so it will be close, but not perfect.. you don't say how much boost, afr's nor timing. my usdm 2.0 with vf30, tmic, pinks, tbe, & aquamist put down 287whp @ 16psi on a dynapack..this was ecutek also with 2 boost map option..16 psi is my low boost setting..19 psi for high boost.. 310whp on dynapack for 5 speed wrx was ~400 chp.. |

i was actually referring to phatbotti tuning...ron and mikey.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/member.php?u=239659 i have never used the other guys but ron and mikey tune for a very reasonable price and have always been there for me when i needed them. not to mention they have tuned my car and many of my friends car without issue. at least give them a shout and consider your options before you committ to anything. |

Clark will be your best bet state side for a V7 car. He has the most experience with them stateside.

i don't know if a pro tuner needs to specialize in a particular subaru motor when we're talking about analyzing the rom data but maybe i'm wrong. would the 207 data be that much different than a 205 or 207?
give ron a shout anyway, i bet you he would feel plenty comfortable working on your car bro. plus ron's probally 300$ cheaper. phatbotti power! |

Well....it really depends on what octane he's on......but the v7 and v8's mapping is wayyyyyy aggressive outta the box.
Im talking ~21 psi and crap loads of timing everywhere. The ones i've done on 98ron which is around 93 octane needed almost 10* of timing taken out of the stock mapping. Dont waste your money on ecutek....read through this. RomRaider/Ecuflash getting started FAQ I only charge $150 if you're interested.....but you would need to buy a tactrix cable to be able to flash and log.....it is explained in the link....and there is a link in there to the tactrix website. |

I bet NZ's 98 RON is a bit better than stateside 93. Most US 93 now as ethanol added to up the octane, at least its becoming difficult to find true ethanol less 93 around here. There's another guy from down under on here that has his tuned with 100RON and E10 and added a crap load of timing.

A completely stock v7 sti engine makes more horsepower than torque, the opposite of the USDM STi's. On a mustang dyno that stock USDM STi's put down 220whp and 230wtq, a stock v7 STI with the proper 6 speed put down 240whp and 220wtq on a stock tune.
I could only guess that your tuned and modified v7 engine will still put more horsepower down than torque. |

the s203 rom is calling for 40-42* of timing at that load at redline.
its amazing how much more smooth these timing maps are than our US ones. its like they're trying really hard to blow our motors top s203 vs bottom 02wrx Last edited by Phatron; 07-19-2010 at 04:35 PM. |

I can't imagine its that different tuning a v7 vs a v8. Clark started on my v8 and was telling me i had mechanical issues, i just stopped getting back in contact with him as I was becoming frustrated throughout the process...etc. You e-tuned tuned the car and it was spot on. In general when tuning, you set the a/f and target boost. You then find the wgdc that is needed to hit the targets. Then you find the timing that makes most power without knocking, which is usually a nice smooth parabola. Yeah some tuners might have more experience, but in the end, the its the same approach no matter what version of the wrx/sti you tune. if someone can tune an ej205 with a vf30 that runs 12s. they can tune an ej207 to run 12s, the idea behind the two motors is similar. Now playing with the AVCS on the v7 is a different ball game but most tuners are now experienced with this as they've been dialing in the avcs on usdm cars since the 04 sti.
