Question 2012 Impreza 2.0i Mobil1 oil filter model #

Checking here to see if anyone knows the correct model # for a Mobil1 oil filter for the new 2.0i engine. According to the Mobil1 web site, the model # is M1108. When I went to Avance Auto Parts online to buy one, they say that the right # is M1110. Any help is appreciated.

Isn't the OEM filter made by Tokyo Roki? That's what I'd use.

Umm... thanks I guess, but that doesn't really answer my question. I never said I thought M1 filters were the best or I needed one. Right now Advance is running a special on M1 oil and filter combo. Just figured I'd jump one this deal to save a few bucks.

he is saying stick with the subaru filters. m1 filters are overpriced and not needed.saving a few bucks shouldnt be in the oil change stuff list.

Well it looks as though I'm not going to get any help here. While I appreciate everyone's concern over what oil filter I should or shouldn't use, that wasn't the point of this thread. I was just looking for a part number if any one knew. Thanks anyway.

go on google and search for it then. you have a brand new engine. look on your stock oem filter and cross reference the filter #. its right in front of you if you open the hood.

You're not getting any help here because every other Subaru owner is trying to find Tokyo Roki's while they are the dealer OEM choice for your car. Aftermarket filters claim to meet Subaru specs, but there are literally only a couple that meet the OEM bypass setting and Mobil1 is not one of them.

Just google Subaru Tokyo Roki and you can spend DAYS reading about them.

Like this thread.

And this one.

And this one.

The number one mission for the past few years for a lot of Subaru owners is to find a filter that meets the specs of the Tokyo Roki. They're only showing up within the past couple of months (like the Wix for the EJ engines).

Well you could always try looking it up on Mobil1's web site like I did. http://www.mobiloil.com

^^
This, why spend money on a filter that if/when some thing happens under warranty may lead to you having to prove it is not at fault. The OEM filter is a perfectly capable filter that does meet Subaru's required specs. Being it is OEM they have nothing to contest should some thing go wrong.

Only reason I would spend money on any filter that doesn't meet the specs is if it is part of a discount oil change deal that includes a filter.

The 108 is the short filter, the 104 is the taller/wider version. The OEM filter is larger for this application, and is mounted upside-down on the top of the engine.

Sad, I just turned my '12 Impreza 2.0i in as a Lemon (SOA bought it back), but it was a nice car other than the airbag system malfunction.

I'd stick with the OEM filter, IMO.

I would stick with an OEM filter as well.

Would you recommend OEM filter for 5k-7k change intervals?

Yes, the oem filter as per subaru's new maintenance schedule is good for 7500 mile intervals on the 2011+ cars. Generally for me personally, I use the amsoil extended life filters for anything going over 7k miles or that will be used in harsh/extreme conditions.

I would, since 7,500 miles is the maximum interval that Subaru specs and I've run them for that long with good oil analysis results. However, in an STI you want to make sure your oil is up to the task.

If you're talking about ATM, it's a good oil with low volatility, high TBN, and high detergent levels, but Amsoil only recommends going to 7,500 miles in 2011 and later turbos (check the product application guide). I would run it to 5k a couple of times and do a used oil analysis.

I misspoke. It's 10W-40 oil.

http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/amo.aspx

Most likely I won't go past 5k change interval.

I would like to join in on the thread de-railing here, Like Dennis says here go for OEM/Tokyo Roki

I've tried many 3rd party Oil Filters: Mobile 1, Purolator etc, and had nothing but leaks / problems

i don't like m1 filters because they don't fit properly have larger than normal oil capacity which leads to loss of pressure.

Having installed a lot of Amsoil (as a dealer) we really like the Amsoil European 5w30 and 5w40 but that isn't an API SM rated oil, so we don't recomend it for our cars. The Signature Series is the best Amsoil for our cars. I wouldn't run 10w40 oil though it's a bit thick IMO. 5w30 or 5w40.

The Amsoil oil filters are good stuff as well, at least from our customers testing (a lot of them do oil analysis on their oils).
