After I saw the 14' XT I am debating trading my 12' WRX in on one. I think they look great and with the new 2.0turbo they make 250 stock. It remains to be seen what kind of performance lies in wait on the new motor in XT trim but I'm thinking it'll make 300whp pretty easily. Some wheels and suspension and I bet that 2014 will be a great DD/family hauler.

Plus you know the car is reliable.

I'm seriously considering trading my 12 WRX for the 14 XT too. I love my WRX, but lately been wanting more ground clearance and interior space for offroad adventures.

All I have ever driven are manuals, but averaging 30k miles per year of driving I'm getting pretty tired of shifting and I actually like the sounds of how the CVT performs in the new Forester. Also the increased MPG would be a definite plus.

Reliability on a first year redesign model has me a little worried though, but then again all of the ringland failures on the current gen WRX have me pretty paranoid already lol..

Keep the XT. Your current payments are next to nothing and it won't be the same with an STI. I would use the 3k on the forester and if that's not enough, then you could always swap to a manual transmission later on. You said yourself it didn't take too long to save up that 3k. It'd be more fun and quicker to put the same amount of money into your XT as you would your STI because you would have less payments. I have a feeling that you won't enjoy a stock STI as much as you would enjoy a tailored XT. It's a hobby. There would probably be a part of you that wished your STI wasn't stock...

Well let me say something and see if you still agree because this is what i keep going back and forth with. Im a law enforcement officer and i dont want to be seen pulling into work in anything crazy sounding or modified heavily, hence why i thought a stock sti (i would be removing the wing) would be the perfect choice because its a blast to drive and not loud or obnoxious. So im trying to find exactly what I can do to the forester thats subtle but will still give it a nice rumble and would just be a blast to drive. Its like i dont want to cross that boundary of looking like im driving a kids car. Sorry if that offends anyone.

Here's my take: If you have kids (especially if they're less than 3 years old and fussy), riding in a car seat in an STi would be extremely uncomfortable. Have you ever driven one? Just curious, it's not that it's unbearable, but every family member I've taken for a ride in my car has always asked what I've done to the suspension, and they're always shocked when I say "Stock suspension".

Forester. You could easily get the forester to be as quick as an sti with $3k and put a bit of suspension work into it as well. Put a vf39 on it and sti intercooler with a 3"downpipe and catless uppipe(if its not already catless). Wont even need to swap the injectors or pump unless you want to max the turbo.

If you want sti'rific suspension drop in the sti springs and struts with a saggy butt spacer from subtle. Upgrade the sways and endlinks and anythimg else you want and have a sweet handling sleeper. You could easily come in under budget and have loads of fun.

Well most Americans are fat - so ya need the big seats. I would guess thought that Subie owners on average are thinner than the population.

Ah I see. Well I would still defend the forester because it has a more adult beginning. You could mod the forester to behave pretty much like a stock sti. Even if you upgrade the exhaust there are still a few options out there that are pretty quiet. Personally I would be happier having a car that is quicker than others like it than a car that's just stock. There are people who know what sti's are and they might still consider it a kid's car even if you've toned it down. A forester you have to mod to a certain point to make it a kid's car. An sti you have to mod to make it an adults car.

No matter what we say it is still your choice. Hope you enjoy your decision!

My 09 foz has 300+ whp on the stock axleback muffler but has a 3" uncatted downpipe, equal length headers, and a straight through 2.5" midpipe with no resonator. Its definitely not stock sounding but remains very quiet on the highway and you hear no exhaust noise inside whatsoever at constant speeds. That keeps things comfortable.

I have swift springs and 22mm sways that make it handle great, but only cost me .75" of clearance. That makes it offroadable and great in snow and yet I still manage to run in the 12 second 1/4 mile range. Its ao much fun to be complete sleeper like it is.

Its like the best of both worlds. I dont get a second glance by cops, and actually have a hard time convincing the regular joe that its quick at all (till they go for a ride).

I'd make a sleeper. You know you have a solid vehicle, and while I love my STi, I'd have serious qualms about buying a used one based on the people that abuse then try and offload them down the line. That being said, a sleeper Fozzy can be a lot of fun, and like someone else said, if you really want to later, just convert it to a MT.
